If you like a fast-paced environment and a variety of projects, this could be the place for you.CBABC is located in downtown Vancouver, close to all transit routes ending at Waterfront Station.POSITION OVERVIEW Reporting to the Manager, Policyamp; Advocacy, the Policy Analyst works with our volunteer lawyers to develop CBABC’s recommendations to change laws and procedures, justice system policy, and the regulation of lawyers. The responsibilities include research, communications and writing, stakeholder and member engagement, and administrative support.  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Liaise with committees of lawyers to develop law and justice policy reforms and prepare policy submissions 

• Research and write policy submissions and briefing notes to be delivered to government, the courts or the Law Society of BC, and which can be understood by a non-legal audience, i.e. the public; 

• Proactively monitor, and engage in continuous gathering and analysis of information on legislative, justice policy and regulatory developments, identifying trends, and the impact on lawyers and the public; 

• Document research, submission dates, and outcomes/changes as a result of submissions; 

• Prepare succinct communications on submissions and their results; 

• Collaborate with other CBABC teams including Policyamp; Advocacy, Communications, Professional Development and the Executive Office, and Canadian Bar Association National Office and branch staff 

• Contribute to an excellent volunteer experience on CBABC committees; 

• Contribute to CBABC’s excellent reputation within the justice system and legal profession; 

• Other duties or projects as assigned by Manager, Policyamp; Advocacy 

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• A degree in political science, law or communications; 

• At least five years of experience in policy development and analysis; 

• Knowledge of the legislative process, justice system and legal profession; 

• Experience and strong skill in researching policy issues, providing analysis, and simplifying complex concepts; 

• Experience in collaborating with and managing teams to establish workplans, meet deadlines, and reach consensus; 

• Ability to interact effectively and develop positive relationships with peers, co-workers, and stakeholders including senior leaders in government and the legal community; 

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft clear and concise briefs, submissions and presentations including through Power Point slide decks, written documents and oral presentations; 

• A team player with excellent communication, interpersonal, judgment and analytical skills; 

• Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and complete initiatives within short timelines; 

• Training or certification on Indigenous Cultural Awareness (e.g. The Path, Law Society of BC, Indigenous Canada); 

• Experience in a non-profit organization or membership association is an asset.; 

• Available for early morning or late afternoon committee meetings as scheduled.
