Job Description

At Carbon Engineering (CE), our vision is to lead the world in the large-scale removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and advance the shift to a sustainable, carbon-neutral society. Based in the outdoor recreation hub of Squamish, BC, this role will be a great fit for someone who feels passionately about this vision, and who wants to be a part of a fast-paced culture where contributions are noticed.Position ScopeThe Policy and Engagement Lead - International Organizations is a critical part of the growing Carbon Engineering (CE) team. With a focus in Asia Pacific, you will act as the bridge between the business domain and emerging carbon markets, that generate and influence revenues and financial incentives supporting Direct Air Capture (DAC) and AIR TO FUELS™ clean infrastructure initiatives.You will be responsible for directly representing CE in policymaking organizations like ICAO’s CORSIA, the IMO, the TSVCM, and UNFCCC. You will build and maintain an overview of policy and regulation relating to CE’s solutions, and generate and maintain pragmatic and commercial advice on options available to CE. You’ll recommend and execute a strategy to achieve them.You’ll take a lead role in developing responses to industry consultations and influence regulatory decision-making via regulatory and industry association groups.Carbon Engineering and the wider field of carbon removal are in a period of significant growth. You will need a self-starting and ambitious approach to this role and a strong ability to work with our CE team and outside stakeholders to pursue policy objectives, all while markets and government landscapes continue to change. You'll need to leverage our BD team's collective expertise, our country managers, and other internal CE experts, as well as connecting with other lawmakers, climate experts, and NGOs to be successful in this role.ResponsibilitiesPrime responsibility for policy development in international organizations setting standards for regulated markets e.g., ICAO CORSIA, IMO, UNFCCCPrime responsibility for standards development in international organizations working on voluntary markets e.g., TSVCMBuild and maintain CE’s policy recommendations that help close the business case for CE’s solutionsParticipation in policy working groupsStay up to date with regulatory and policy developmentsLead responses to policy calls for evidenceLiaise with wider CE team to understand business objectives and CE technologyConduct direct engagement with Government representatives and policy makersWhere appropriate, identify, recruit, and manage consultants to work with government and regulators to achieve policy outcomesEducation and experienceEducation: Degree-level education. Engineering degree a strong asset.Experience: Minimum five years prior experience with energy economics / carbon lifecycle in legislative or regulatory policymaking.
