Job Description

Your Role1QBit is looking for an expert in operations research to work on theoretical and experimental aspects of emerging quantum and quantum-inspired devices. Our Hardware Innovation Lab (HIL) team is interested to hear from high caliber scientists who are excited to contribute to the various layers of the full stack of computing. HIL collaborates with its hardware partners, employing its expertise in classical and quantum computing to develop technologies that will enable scalable and applicable quantum computing.What You’ll Do

  • Work alongside peers with unique and creative backgrounds in physics, computer science, mathematics and engineering
  • Constantly learn through your work as well as active engagement with the academic community
  • Present to and learn from collaborators
  • Design and analyze algorithms
  • Design and implement numerical and lab experiments
  • Perform simulations and benchmarking
  • Take part in generating reports, drafting patents, authoring publications, and attending conferences
What You’ll BringMembers of our team bring a confluence of personality, skills, and intent that contributes to their individual development and our collective growth as an organization. The knowledge and mindset you will bring to our team include the following:
  • PhD in operations research, computer science, or mathematics (or equivalent training)
  • Coursework or work experience in mathematical programming including linear, (mixed) integer, stochastic and / or nonlinear programming
  • Experience in solving large-scale optimization using advanced operations research / computer science techniques, including decomposition algorithms, dynamic programming, heuristics, etc.
  • Experience in model prototyping through use of optimization toolkit(s) including CPLEX, Gurobi, or AMPL
  • A strong research track record in operations research, mathematical programming, large scale optimization, demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and top-tier conference presentations
  • A passion for quantum computing
  • Experience with Unix/Linux and strong programming skills (e.g., Python, C/C++)
  • Ability to work well with others towards a common goal
  • Research independence: the ability to take responsibility and initiative to conduct your research as it is required in working towards the common goal
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with:
    • Non-convex optimization techniques, including local search, Monte Carlo method, etc.
    • Metaheuristics and implementation, including simulated annealing, parallel tempering, genetic algorithms, etc.
    • Statistical learning methods for solving complex problems
    • Machine learning and related topics in convex optimization
