We have over 350 NanoAssemblr instruments deployed worldwide (including the top 25 large pharma companies) and more than 200 publications that feature our technology.Position SummaryThe individual will utilize his/her highly specialized knowledge and experience to develop novel chemical entities for the self-assembly of nanoparticles towards developing applications for ex-vivo and in-vivo gene therapies. The individual will contribute to brainstorming with colleagues and other experts and evaluate new concepts and ideas in the lab. The individual is expected to work on multiple projects, work with a cross-disciplinary team of Engineers, Scientists, Product Managers, and Scientific Liaisons. The individual must be a team player who thrives in a dynamic environment with multiple tasks and aggressive deadlines and contributes to the general functioning of the R&D department and laboratory, and the continued quality standards of laboratory work set by PNI. The individual must have a great positive mind set and flexibility and tolerance to adapt to changes.Areas of Responsibility

  • Responsible for procurement of novel Lipid excipients; Establish synthetic routes for discovery & GMP lipids.
  • Manage Lipid Inventory
  • Develop analytical methods for lipid excipients, determine physical and chemical stability of nanoparticle formulations and conduct process development activities.
  • Designing and executing experiments with minimal input from supervisor, including establishing novel technologies in-house.
  • Analyze biological readouts (in-vitro and in-vivo experiments), interpret results, and recommend appropriate next steps.
  • Assist in generating intellectual property documents, draft patent applications, evaluate prior art, and respond to patent office actions, as required.
  • Develop analytical methods for drug substance and drug product.
  • Develop/support manufacturing processes at various scales.
  • Write and/or review protocols and reports.
  • Will support method transfer from R&D to QC team as needed.
  • Will support analysis of various LNP candidates, and author/review SOPs and/or certificates of analysis. Will support product release and stability activities as needed.
  • Coordinate equipment installation, qualification and calibration activities if needed. Troubleshoot equipment related problems with instrument manufacturer to resolve issues.
  • Provides technical support and training to PNI staff and customers (product use, protocols).
  • Maintain established laboratory policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety, and compliance standards.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
  • PhD in Medicinal or Synthetic Organic Chemistry with experience as a medicinal chemist/scientist, preferably at a pharmaceutical or biotech company. Strong practical background in modern synthetic organic or medicinal chemistry is required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in design, synthesis, and analysis of lipids.
  • Demonstrated experience working as part of a collaborative team in a cross-disciplinary setting
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with a range of standard chemistry laboratory instrumentation (e.g. 1D/2D NMR, MS, HPLC/UPLC, automated chromatography), purification techniques, and data analysis.
  • Good understanding of drug/lipid design principles, PK, toxicity, pharmacodynamics etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, work in a multi-disciplinary and fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Individual has contributed to the field as evidenced by patents or peer reviewed publications.
  • Proven ability to apply critical and analytical thinking.
  • Flexible, collaborative, organized, data-driven, and detail-oriented.
