Job Description

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) student society, and works to improve the academic, social and personal lives of the 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus. The AMS also runs nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting the students at UBC.Job DescriptionPosition Title: Social Media AssociateReports to: Assistant Programming and Events ManagerEmployee Status: Term, HourlyLength of Term: August 2, 2022 – May 11, 2023 (with possibility of extension)Hours per week: 10 - 15 hours/weekCompensation: Tier 1Position Purpose:The Alma Mater Society of UBC is currently looking for a motivated, creative and organized student to fill the role of Social Media Associate. The Social Media Associate will work closely with the department manager to help ensure the proper development and implementation of the social media presence for the AMS. This is a great opportunity for a student interested in the development of culture on campus.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Actively engage with members of the AMS, student clubs and organization, and the university in general to keep abreast of what is happening on campus and what is important to students
  • Manage and update all AMS Events social media accounts
  • Maintaining social media channels including creating, curating and developing original content
  • Collaborate with other departments, specifically The Pit and AMS to ensure social media accounts are working together and enhancing one another
  • Update the Events page on the AMS website with help from the Sr. Communications Manager
  • Upload YouTube content consistently and curate captions for the videos
  • Develop e-mail campaigns and integrated marketing campaigns across channels
  • Work collaboratively with departments within the AMS and the broader UBC community to help develop new and compelling interactive content features for social media
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications and Experience:
  • Must be a student currently registered at UBC
  • Willingness to work late hours and long shifts on occasion is an asset
  • Knowledge of the current interests of post-secondary students
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and produce results within a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience with Clubhouse, TikTok and Instagram Reels is an asset
  • Positive attitude & responsive and customer service oriented
  • Strong knowledge of new and existing social media applications
  • Photography and videography skills is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of computer software including MS Excel, Word, Outlook, Wordpress and Graphic design software.
