Job Description

Strategic Lead, Laboratory Quality & Process ImprovementLM LabsVancouver, BCAs per the current Public Health Order, full vaccination against COVID-19 is a condition of employment with PHSA as of October 26, 2021.The Strategic Lead, Laboratory Quality & Process Improvement working in close collaboration with the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine leadership team and reporting to the Director, Laboratory Quality & Process Improvement, ensures the implementation and evaluation of comprehensive quality, safety, risk, and performance improvement programs in alignment with the strategic direction for integrated Laboratory service delivery across the Lower Mainland. Key focus for the role is to project manage the ongoing development of centralized activities and initiatives to support strategic and operational decision-making including workflow redesign, utilization management, risk management, accreditation reporting, quality and safety monitoring, and process improvements. The Strategic Lead also assesses the impact of Quality Improvement initiatives (including Lean methodology) from a quality, safety and risk management perspective and works towards building Quality Improvement knowledge within an integrated Laboratory Services. The Strategic Lead provides leadership, direction and guidance to staff and develops and monitors budgets for assigned projects.What you’ll do

  • Implement and evaluate strategic plans, goals and objectives for comprehensive quality, safety, risk, and performance improvement programs that align with the strategic direction for Laboratory service delivery across the Lower Mainland. Ensures safety, quality improvement, and accreditation reporting requirements meet organizational and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate and oversee data collection and analysis, reporting and improvement activities and follow-up related to incidents, errors and complaints. Ensure recommendations from critical incident reviews, litigation, accreditation reports and other safety, risk and quality activities are evaluated and implemented.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other departments, groups and team members through continual liaison and build successful collaboration to ensure integration of services and to support the delivery of high-quality health care; facilitates interdisciplinary cooperation, participates on committees, and provide regular relevant communication on pertinent matters.
  • Provide leadership to build consensus and engagement; establish respectful stakeholder relationships, leveraging on knowledge-sharing to ensure staff are informed and equipped to handle changes that impact their responsibilities. Develop a process for delivery of staff education and provide instruction when required.
  • Provide expertise and leadership to stakeholder groups to identify priorities related to accreditation, and develop and share tools for project management of components of the accreditation cycle to ensure the best Accreditation Award results for laboratory services across the Lower Mainland.
What you bring
  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Medical Technology and Certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science or post graduate education in Business and/or Health Administration
  • At least seven (7) years’ recent, related experience with Quality Systems and a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Team-building, facilitation and proven skills to work collaboratively across functional areas and in a matrix organization to achieve common goals.
  • Knowledge and experience in current quality and safety literature, programs and tools specific to the health care industry that is supported by an ongoing commitment to innovation and continuous quality improvement.
  • Knowledge and expertise in Quality Management, Performance Improvement, Safety and Accreditation standards.
  • Great communication, and excellent interpersonal skills coupled with a demonstrated ability to promote an environment that motivates others, maximizes the potential of individuals, and negotiates effectively to resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated analytical & problem solving skills with a global perspective in order to incorporate the organization’s systems & strategies when developing viable solutions to program problems.
  • Strong presentation skills and computer skills including spreadsheet programs and word processing software required.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
