Today, we are a strong, growing community of over 1,300 members. We live on a small portion of our traditional territory, known as the Musqueam Indian Reserve, located south of Marine Drive near the mouth of the Fraser River. The name Musqueam relates back to the River Plant, the name of the plant is məθkʷəy̓. There is a story that has been passed on from generation to generation that explains how we became known as the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) - People of the River Plant. We have always moved throughout our territory using the resources it provides for fishing, hunting, trapping and gathering. We remain distinct and our cultural practices are strong, despite the devastating impacts of residential schools, colonial laws banning our ceremonies, and other attempts to assimilate our people. Our lands and waters continue to support our cultural and economic practices while serving as a source of knowledge and memory, encoded with our teachings and laws. To learn more about Musqueam, please visit www.musqueam.bc.caJOB POSTINGSummer Recreation LeadersTemporary (5 Positions)Under the supervision of the Musqueam Indian Band Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Assistants the Summer Recreation Leaders will assist in the development and delivery of a dynamic summer recreation program for youth aged 7 to 12. Programming will be done virtually.Duties:Create monthly/weekly schedules and community notices.Prepare activities and packages for distribution to families.Supervise and participate with children and youth on virtual activities.Communicate with community members and recreation staff regarding the program.Maintain a work journal, fill out incident reports, and make progress reports to Recreation staff.Knowledge and Abilities:Willingness to work with children and youth.Willingness to work with a large team to ensure the successful delivery of the program.Some experience in working with children and youth would be an asset.Must be self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.Must have good communication skills and enjoy working in dynamic environment with children and youth.Must be prompt and reliable.Must have a Social Insurance NumberAbility to host online sessions and must be proficient in the use of computers.Working Conditions:Work is performed from home and occasional shopping and delivery of itemsSuccessful Criminal Record CheckPlease apply by submitting a cover letter and resume to Musqueam Indian Band, Human Resources, 6735 Salish Drive , Vancouver , B.C, V6N 4C4Fax: (604) 263-4212e-mail:jobs@musqueam.bc.caThe closing date for applications is Wednesday June 30th, 2021 @ 4:00 pmApplicants of Musqueam and/or Aboriginal ancestry are encouraged to apply.
