Part Time Contracts(Multiple Openings)Position: Super Science Club (SSC) FacilitatorsReports to: Manager, Super Science ClubScience World is a BC-based charitable organization that engages the people of British Columbia in STEAM literacy. As a free, after school club at underserved elementary schools in Vancouver, the program provides stimulating and interactive activities to help inspire children to have fun with science and develop critical thinking skills that lead to lifelong learning. From January through the end of May 2023, the SSC Facilitators will represent Science World in the community by delivering after-school programs in schools across East Vancouver. In teaching teams, the Facilitators work together to ensure SSC students in grade 1-7 receive a high quality after school experience that leaves them excited about science as a way of understanding the world.Benefits/skills gained through working as an SSC Facilitator include: experience in team teaching and inquiry-based program delivery, classroom management skills, science content learning, presentation/communication prowess, opportunity to grow in cultural competency and understanding needs of communities served by SSC, and working with a dynamic group of teachers, scientists, community advocates, theatre professionals, and more!Time Commitment: This is an afternoon part-time position requiring 8 to 12 hours per week while school is in session (January – May). Each 4-hour shift is from 1:30pm-5:30pm and the program runs Monday to Thursday. Preference is given to those with availability for 2 or more afternoons/week. Note: Super Science Club does not run during school holiday breaks/closures and no shifts will occur at these times (e.g. Spring Break, Winter Break & Professional Development days).Responsibilities:

  • Provide a fun after-school experience that will inspire students with memorable, hands-on, dynamic demonstrations
  • Present on pre-planned science topics and facilitate activities for grade 1-7 students in a team of 2-3 people
  • Provide general classroom management (maintaining a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment)
  • Prepare, clean-up and restock all materials and resources required to deliver the program
  • Participate in a daily debrief with your team and document session feedback
  • Contribute collaboratively to the constant improvement of this important program and your own program delivery performance
  • Other duties as required
Qualifications:
  • Must be an engaged, responsive and respectful team player capable of working in a dynamic team environment
  • Must be organized, self-motivated, flexible, and responsible
  • Must possess a keen interest in science and hands-on learning
  • Experience working with children
  • Experience working with the public; excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of a High School graduation, some post-secondary education preferred
  • Preference given to applicants who possess a valid Class 5 BC driver’s license. Successful candidates will be asked to provide a current and clean driver’s abstract for examination and approval
  • Availability on 2 or more days/week is preferred
  • Current first aid certificate with CPR-C and AED, or willingness to obtain one, is considered an asset
