Job Description

Job DescriptionYWCA Metro Vancouver’s Survive to Thrive is a program, funded through the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training, to provide employment services for survivors of violence and/or abuse. The structured program has comprehensive workshop format; essential skills; job development; opportunities for work experience, employer engagement; sustainable employment placement and job coaching. The program has expanded to add to the current manager and two-person team to deliver this performance-based employment program, serving Burquitlam and the rest of Metro Vancouver.Under the general supervision of the Manager of SOV Employment Programs, the Survive to Thrive Pre-Employment Advisor is responsible for working closely with program’s team to ensure Survivors of Violence are reached, enrolled and participate in overcoming the impacts of violence and/or abuse to move towards employment and/or substantive education. Experience working with Survivors of Violence is a requirement.Who We AreWe are a dedicated and dynamic team of career development practitioners.   • Provide pre-employment coaching for participants and address concerns that might affect employment readiness. This could include in person, over the phone, and online support based on the needs of the individual and the situation.
  • Case conference with the team to support participants to achieve and sustain program & employment readiness
  • Keep up with labour market trends, employment issues, community resources, job training, and employment opportunities
  • Strengthen program-readiness for potential participants wanting to take the full Survive to Thrive Employment Program.
  • Provide pre-employment services i.e. small groups or 1:1 in prep for fuller Survive to Thrive Program
  • Increase program participation for those needing accommodations such as customized support and individualized work.
  • Provide support to increase the chance of program completion, community connection, or employment/education readiness.
  • Working with the SOV Manager and Team
  • Assist participants to access workshops, training, job development, specialized assessments, and financial supports.
  • Be familiar with and able to work with participants using the latest technologies
  • Ensure reconnects are made with those interested in a later Survive to Thrive cohort
  • Act as a champion of the program, promoting our services throughout community and networking events
  • Conducting specialized outreach into the community to connect SOV participants to WorkBC Centres and appropriate Community Agencies in Burquitlam, and the rest of Metro Vancouver
  • Providing back-up facilitation for employment workshops where required
  • Providing back-up job development for employment where required
  • Ensuring documentation standards are met as part of Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training (MAEST) policy
  • Ensure file consistency for government audits
  • Assist with community referrals for those not yet ready for an employment program and/or for those that have issues arise while in the program.
  • Provide follow-up to ensure that first or next steps are completed.
  • Assist with participants with high needs to eliminate or limit participant disruption.
  • Where appropriate assist with referring to other YWCA services i.e. employment programs, housing, and violence prevention, etc.
  • Assist with recommendations around the first and next steps.
  • Able to collaborate and work with service providers providing safety plan.
Qualifications:
  • Career advising or counselling experience, with demonstrated experience working one to one with participants and facilitating workshops
  • Relevant post-secondary degree or diploma, or a combination of relevant education and experience
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in working with primarily female job seekers
  • Experience with relevant community and/or employment services serving those who have experienced violence and/or abuse is an asset. Career coaching, counselling, social service work skills or a combination are beneficial.
  • Good communication, and case note writing skills
  • Understanding and making realistic job matches
  • Good organization skills, and other basic admin duties
  • Skills with all Microsoft applications (i.e. Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Able to show initiative, flexibility and demonstrate positive attitude towards change and work
  • Criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations) will be required
  • Successful applicants are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, exemption requests must be supported by valid, legal documents.
Additional Experience as an Asset:
  • Group facilitation experience especially for Survivors of Violence / Abuse
  • Violence/trauma informed knowledge and understanding of impacts on employment
  • Outreach, marketing and networking experience
  • Understanding of EI, IA, and other government policies an asset
  • Computer, organization and other administrative skills
  • Administering assessment tools
  • Additional languages an asset
