Job Description

The Royal Academy of Art (KABK) and the Royal Conservatoire (KC) together constitute the University of the Arts The Hague (Hogeschool der Kunsten Den Haag / HdK). The HdK offers a wide range of art programmes to around 1800 students, from bachelors, masters, a double degree to PhD options in conjunction with Leiden University. It also provides unique programmes for pupils and students in combination with primary and secondary education. The HdK is located at two sites in the centre of The Hague.The Royal Academy of Art, The Hague (KABK) educates artists and designers since 1682. We encourage innovation through collaboration and facilitate critical reflection on artists' and designers' ever-changing roles in the professional field and in our societies.BA Textile & FashionOffering two disciplines simultaneously within one and the same department creates a unique profile in design education. By embracing their interdependence and possibilities in overlap this provides opportunities for the development of versatile transdisciplinary practices. Combining artistic with theoretical research, students are encouraged to develop a very personal and critical viewpoint when designing solutions for rapidly evolving realities that are becoming more and more aware of their contemporary socio-political, economic and cultural responsibilities.The curriculum builds around annual focal points: year 1 Play, year 2 Ground, year 3 Connect, year 4 Transform.Design is at the core of the program, supported by extensive courses in knowledge, skills and communication. The foundations for a comprehensive framework of references are laid out through theoretical and analytical courses like Research & Discourse, Art History, Textile & Fashion History and Textile & Fashion in Context. Furthermore, the program offers students the opportunity to expand and deepen their interests through an academy-wide individual study trajectory with various elective courses. In this way, the department celebrates both the uniqueness and diversity of its international student population. It allows each individual to develop their strengths to the fullest within an inclusive work environment, where everyone can feel respected and safe. The Textile & Fashion Department is looking for aTutor Model Drawing (0,3 fte)One of the core talents to be developed during our 4-year bachelor program is the personal artistic handwriting of each student. Model Drawing continuously trains the eye-hand coordination, using still life and live models to observe, discover and capture shape, proportions and expressions. Combined with different drawing techniques and use of materials, the student acquires a wide range of technical skills and an understanding of how to translate three-dimensional observation into a unique two-dimensional expression.Spread over four years various subjects continuously develop: shape, perspective, portrait, anatomy of the human body, physical expression, materials, colours, composition, drawing style etc.Through experimentation and reflection, goal is to develop a unique style and method of working in close connection to the design assignments that inspires, supports and communicates the student’s personal fascination and vision.Your profileYou are an inspiring artist with extensive technical knowledge of drawing and painting skills, anatomy of the human body and a wide vocabulary in experimental and expressive use of material and color.You are familiar with art education and have the sensitivity to recognize and guide the development of someone’s authentic talent. You possess great communication skills in English conversations. Affinity with textile and/or fashion is a plus.What do we offerYou will typically teach one and a half day per week for 34 weeks per year. A flexible arrangement of teaching hours might be necessary occasionally. We expect the contract to start on September 1, 2021. The contract is for one year. It can be renewed. The position is classified as pay scale 11 under the Collective Agreement for Higher Professional Education (CAO HBO).
