As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives. Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens. We believe in building a brighter future for all British Columbians and providing a supportive and inclusive workplace for all our staff.This is a full-time temporary (35 hours per week), position reporting to the Manager of Victim Services. This community-based Victim Service Program provides specialized services to adult who are victims of violence and trauma in the policing jurisdiction of Vancouver, BC.   • B.S.W. or relevant B.A. from a recognized accredited university; equivalencies will be considered
  • Minimum 2 years experience providing victim support services, including crisis intervention and emotional support, information, advocacy and support to victims of violence navigating the justice system and social services. Experience supporting and advocating for women who have experienced gender-based violence including sexual assault and domestic violence is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, community-based and feminist approaches to intervening in violence against women, taking into account the intersectionality of persons marginalized on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, economic status, language, culture, age, ability, sexual or gender identity
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with the Criminal Justice System (CJS), other victim service and community programs, and key social services
  • Knowledge of Victim of Crime Act (VOCA)
  • Knowledge of Provincial Policy on Violence Against Women in Relationships (VAWIR)
  • Knowledge of Crime Victim Assistance Program
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and support skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities
  • Acting as a knowledge keeper, passing teachings and learnings for Indigenous individuals, families and youth
  • Ability to maintain integrity and hold confidentiality as a Victim Support Worker, while collaborating with systems with differing mandates and perspectives
  • Ability to self-manage and to work both independently and as a member of a professional team
  • Ability to be self-reflective, compassionate and self-aware
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries
  • Computer skills in Windows/PC environment
  • Possess valid BC driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
  • Second language is an asset
Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Ability to successfully pass an enhanced police security clearance and background check
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status will be required
