In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.Posting End DateJanuary 5, 2023Note: Applications will be accepted until 11:59 PM on the day prior to the Posting End Date above.Job End DateMar 31, 2024Job Description SummaryThe incumbent will be part of a team that provides the Faculty of Arts with web services and application support for the administrative, teaching, and research needs of approximately thirty departments, schools, and units, supporting over 800 faculty, 600 staff, and 13,000 students across the Faculty of Arts.Organizational StatusReports to the Manager, Projects and Services, Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (Arts ISIT); interacts directly with Heads of departments, faculty, staff and students, as required in order to fully understand client needs and departmental procedures; liaises and collaborates with external commercial consultants and technicians as well as additional UBC service partners.Work Performed

  • Provides first level technical support to users of supported web applications and services by analyzing, troubleshooting, diagnosing and applying appropriate solutions to resolve user issues.
  • Assists users, both remotely and in-person, to diagnose and resolve problems, escalates when necessary, and documents problem status and action taken.
  • Develops training materials and provides training in the form of webinars, workshops, or one-on-one training sessions.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Assists in the creation of websites for individual departments, schools, and programs.
  • Implements and modifies layouts and templates, including writing HTML, CSS, etc.
  • Assists in the migration and reorganization of content from older websites.
  • Conducts testing of new or proposed features, enhancements, and integrations to ensure they meet user requirements and specifications.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/JudgementMust be able to exercise judgment and tact when dealing with clients and their data. Errors in judgment could lead to work disruption, lost productivity, unnecessary costs and interfere with the ability of faculty members and departments to function effectively. Information must be kept under strict confidentiality because of the nature of the data stored in the systems.Supervision ReceivedReceives direct supervision from the Manager, Projects and Services, Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology, Arts ISIT. Work is reviewed in terms of completeness, accuracy and timeliness.Supervision GivenProvides some assistance and provides technical guidance/training to part time (student) employees.Minimum QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred QualificationsMinimum of one year of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferably within a university environment. ITIL training and/or certification is an asset.Additional requirements:
  • Work experience supporting, developing, and implementing websites, themes, and custom plug-ins in WordPress.
  • Strong communication skills (written, oral and listening.)
  • Ability to take initiative and handle competing and often conflicting demands under conditions of severe resource restraints.
  • High level of organizational skills and time management.
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects in order to meet deadlines.
  • Exhibits a strong attention to detail including accurate documentation.
  • Must be flexible and perform well under pressure.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to organize and provide training and tutorials to faculty, staff, researchers, and students.
