Find out more about our team and work: www.eya.caWhat you’ll do: situation & role overviewWe’re looking for someone to lead our Roots & Shoots land-based employment training program for youth who identify as Indigenous, People of Colour, and/or living with a disability. The program engages small groups of five youth in hands-on training in employability skills and job skills in native plant horticulture, ecological restoration, environmental education, and Indigenous land stewardship - followed by work placements with a local environmental organization. The manager oversees the development and delivery of this program and supervises a small team of program coordinators. Activities take place at outdoor sites in East Vancouver.Key responsibilitiesSupervise a team of coordinators responsible for program facilitation and deliveryEnsure project deliverables are met; manage project budget and reportingDesign curricula & lesson plans engaging youth to develop employability skills; apply a critical and decolonial lens to these teachingsSupport coordinators to refine existing curricula on environmental job skills (native plant horticulture, ecological restoration, Indigenous land stewardship, environmental education)Co-facilitate 3 x 10-week training programs annually with coordinators (in-person & virtual)Develop partnerships with work placement employers (local environmental non-profits)Manage 12-week work placements; support youth and employersSupport youth to connect with community resources and find employment post-programDevelop and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and partner organizationsLead the recruitment and registration of 5-6 youth participants per cohortCoordinate program logistics (materials purchase, catering, scheduling guests, etc.)Develop policies to guide program delivery through a trauma-informed & decolonial lensMonitor and track progress of youth participantsOversee program administrative tasks (waivers, etc.)Lead program evaluation: youth surveys, interviews, etc.What you’ll bring: requirementsWe're looking for an energetic and skilled facilitator with experience managing projects and supervising small teams. You have knowledge and/or interest in skills training for youth and land-based education. You’re familiar with lesson planning and curricula - and ideally with trauma-informed and decolonizing practices that allow you to apply a critical lens to employability training. You’re a good communicator, organized, collaborative, and excited about EYA’s mission.2 - 3 years experience managing projects; ideally some budget experienceExperience facilitating youth skills training and/or land-based educationExperience supervising and supporting a small staff team or volunteersExperience designing curriculum and lesson plansStrong knowledge of basic employability skills (communication, teamwork, work planning, project management, computer skills, etc.) through training or lived experienceKnowledge of trauma-informed practice and decolonizing practices an assetKnowledge of Indigenous land stewardship, horticulture, or ecological restoration an assetKnowledge of local native plants and ecology an assetClass 5 driver’s licence and ability to join MODO car co-op an assetAble to manage a large project and achieve deliverablesClear and open communication skillsAble to work collaboratively with a small teamHighly organized and a good problem solverCommitted to doing your best workFlexible and willing to pitch in to make things happenAble to do physical work in an outdoor setting in all weather conditionsPersonal values fit with EYA mission and cultureSatisfactory criminal record check, including vulnerable sector check, requiredOccupational First Aid Level 1 and FoodSafe Level 1, or willing to obtainCovid-19: EYA has health & safety policies in place to keep our staff and participants safe.
