Job Description

EBC thinks outside the box and deploys all its know-how to carry out major infrastructure projects: bridges, roads, highways, tunnels, marine installations. Our ability to meet deadlines and budgets as well as our vast expertise in the field allows us to actively participate in large-scale projects such as the Samuel-De-Champlain Bridge, the Réseau Express Métropolitain (REM) and the Site C hydro-electric power station located near Fort St-John in British Columbia.We are looking for Project Director - Roads and Highways for our Civil Division in Western Canada. Under the supervision of the Vice President Civil Operations - West, the Project Director will take care of the completion of the projects he has tendered and won.The Project Director plans, directs, organizes, coordinates and controls the completion of construction projects.Among other things, the Project Director will be responsible for:Requirements

  • Responsible for the preparation of bids and the execution of projects. The signing of tenders is the responsibility of the assigned Vice-President.
  • Negotiate agreements with subcontractors, sign letters of intent after discussion with the vice president, verify agreements with subcontractors and sign them (for subcontracts valued at less than $1 million);
  • Recruiting and developing effective project teams to pursue, bid, and successfully execute design-build projects within the transportation market sector.
  • In collaboration with project managers and superintendents, ensure that the work carried out meets the standards and the objectives set for quality, safety and relations in the work, quantity, deadlines and costs and take the necessary corrective action when required.
  • Strengthen existing relationships and foster new connections with owners, engineers, and subcontractors specializing in the transportation sector.
  • Possess a strong understanding of and experience with various types of contract models commonly used in British Columbia and provide support in reviewing and negotiating contract terms.
  • Monthly verification and discussion with project managers of all cost controls under his/her supervision and reporting to the vice president.
  • Ensure the development, application and compliance with the EBC health, safety, environment and quality programs developed for each project.
  • Follow up on ISO procedures with operational staff. Responsible for arranging site kick-off meetings, monthly project reviews, project closeout procedures, post-mortems and participation in planning reviews.
  • Assist in the documentation and negotiation of contract claims and other legal or litigation issues with the vice president and legal team
  • Perform all other tasks required for the execution of his / her mandate.
Competencies and Qualifications:
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction engineering.
  • A minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in civil construction, with a focus on transportation, highways, bridges, marine construction or similar projects in Western Canada.
  • Experience with corporate strategic planning initiatives and a demonstrated ability to plan and implement successful development strategies
  • Demonstrated understanding of the overall Transportation Market in Western Canada and more broadly in North America
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities in the areas of personnel management, decision making, change management, employee development, performance management, and team building skills
  • Outstanding client engagement and relationship skills

  • Outstanding communication and organizational skills with the ability to effectively influence others and successfully resolve a variety of client, project and technical issues to bring the project to successful completion
  • A passion to develop teams and for organizational growth and success
  • Bilingualism in French and English, considered a strong asset

  • Ability to attend to detail and work in an accurate and efficient manner
  • Ability to effectively manage and complete priorities on a daily basis.
