Job Description

Under the responsibility of the Director of Student Services, the Social Service Officer is responsible for working collaboratively to create and maintain an environment conducive to fostering a mutual respect between members of the Vanier College community.More specifically, but not limited to, the Social Services Officer – Code of Conduct:

  • Develops and offer opportunities for professional development, skills building and resource sharing on the topics of student conduct, and the intersection of mental health, student advocacy, and threat assessment, within the realm of Student Conduct;
  • Plans, develop and implement initiatives, outreach activities and education that is multi-modal (e.g. posters, videos, online training, face-to-face, print material, workshops, multi-media, etc…), to promote a positive, safe and caring Student Conduct Community of Practice and College climate;
  • Assesses, investigate, and intervene with re-education and/or disciplinary measures, when appropriate;
  • Mediates between students and other members of the Vanier community in order to prevent or resolve conflict;
  • Liaises with Security and VTRA;
  • Ensures policies and procedures related to student discipline are updated and respected (Vanier Code of Conduct, etc.);
  • Provides crisis intervention/management strategies;
  • Assists students and/or their families with the interpretation of college policies and procedures;
  • Maintains up-to-date record keeping and statistical analysis system on digital platform.
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.Classification: Travailleur ou travailleuse sociale (Social Services Officer)Requirements : Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited program in human relations, student affairs, counseling services, gender studies, or other related areas.
Conditions related to the specific position:
  • Excellent communication, leadership and coalition building skills;
  • Experience in an educational or social services setting, with demonstrated work experience with, and knowledge of managing student conduct, and promoting safe and healthy schools initiatives;
  • Proven crisis assessment and crisis management skills, as well as experience with mental health support services;
  • Experience working with survivor/victims impacted by trauma;
  • Ability to set goals and complete projects in a timely manner;
  • Experience and ease with outreach/presentations;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff, students, administration, and the community, including individuals of diverse backgrounds, life experience, and abilities;
  • Proven ability to effectively network and work professionally with community resources and agencies;
  • Ability to completely understand and maintain strict adherence to confidentiality and safety procedures;
  • Excellent English oral and written competencies (to be tested);
  • Good French oral and written competencies (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word (to be tested);
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel (to be tested).
