Job Description

Reporting to the Professional Services Coordinator, the Social Work Technician is responsible for welcoming students, giving information, and referring students to appropriate resources within and outside of the college.More specifically, but not limited the Social Work Technician:

  • Meets students individually or in group to give them information about the college, procedures, resources, as well as information related to finding a balanced student life;
  • Detects and helps students who are experiencing problematic personal situations;
  • Provides students with intervention, prevention and referral services;
  • Notes observations and interventions, establishes files and keeps them up to date;
  • Synthesizes data of problems submitted in order to make an evaluation and suggest solutions;
  • Remains informed of services available within and outside the college in order to make appropriate referrals;
  • Liaises with teachers and different services in the College;
  • Participates in the development of socio-educational activity programs within a school integration and retention perspective;
  • Uses facilitation techniques in order to assist groups in organizing themselves and implementing activities aimed at developing significant relationships;
  • Sensitizes the college community to students social problems;
  • Acts as liaison between the Continuing Education Department and Student Services;
  • Is called upon to coordinate the work of support personnel involved in technical operations or programs for which he is responsible and to train them.
Other related tasks which fall within the scope of the classification of this position may be assigned.Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (35 hours a week)Replacement: A.S.A.P.   • Diploma of college studies (DEC) in social work or in appropriate specialty, a diploma or an attestation of studies which is recognized as equivalent by the competent authority.
Conditions related to the specific position:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Strong organization skills;
  • Experience providing crisis counselling, an asset;
  • Experience working with special need population, an asset;
  • Strong English oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Good French oral and written communication skills (to be tested);
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) (to be tested).
