Job Description

The RRT plays an essential role in providing quality and patient/family centered care. The RRT is responsible for monitoring, assessments and providing treatment for patients of all agesResponsibilities:

  • Assess and evaluate patients with respiratory disorders
  • Administer respiratory treatments and therapies as prescribed by physicians
  • Monitor and adjust ventilator settings for patients on mechanical ventilation
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas analysis
  • Educate patients and their families on respiratory care techniques and disease management
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to develop and implement patient care plans
  • Document patient assessments, treatments, and progress in medical records
Other responsibilities include performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including arterial line insertions, adult and neonatal intubations, LMA Insertions and tracheostomy tube changes. Also providing patient and family education, for discharge planning and coaches and mentors staff. Working independently and collaboratively as part of the interprofessional care team, they will contribute to creating a world-class health experience for patients and their families, by demonstrating professionalism at every turn, upholding our values of excellence, leadership and empathy, and exemplifying our Commitment to Caring.The RRTs engaged must have the following:
  • Current registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificate
  • At least 1-2 years acute care experience
  • Ability to administer medications via inhalation or other routes as required

Preferably, the RRT profile also includes:
  • Member in good standing of C.S.R.T and R.T.S.O.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificate and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate
  • NICU and Labouramp; Delivery experience
  • Ability to speak a second language.
