Job Description

Internal/External Job PostingPOSITION: Aquatic CoordinatorSALARY: $37.00 to $41.92 per hour plus benefits (2022 rates)CLASSIFICATION: J15, Recreation Coordinator IIIHOURS OF WORK: Primarily, Monday to Friday, with the ability to work a variety of shifts, including: days,afternoons, evenings, and weekends, as required for operational needs.STATUS: Regular full timeCLOSING DATE: November 14th, 2022, at 12:00PMCOMPETITION #: 22-90SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Manager of Recreation, the Aquatic Coordinator is responsiblefor supervising, developing, promoting, implementing, and administering aquatic programs.JOB DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Recruits, selects, monitors and schedules staff.
  • Conducts performance appraisals, and handles staff performance issues, i.e., progressive discipline.
  • Builds an effective program team. Provides mentorship for staff, departmental leadership, direction, and
goal setting. Recruits and liaises with service providers. Chairs staff meetings.
  • Develops and ensures training systems are place.
  • Assess community needs through evaluation, focus groups, surveys, market research, etc.
  • Develops, initiates, and implements programs; and approves all program offerings and facility use with
manager.
  • Ensures all facilities and staff, required for programs, are in place.
  • Takes a leadership role on regional and community inter-agency committees and is the community liaison
for the department.
  • Meets with service providers to develop and contracts. Approves all agreements with service providers
and monitors use.
  • Oversees all expenditures for the department to ensure appropriate disbursement of funds.
  • Develops and monitors overall budget for the department. Provides analysis of budget. Presents, defends,
and is accountable for budget to management.
  • Develops policies and procedures for aquatics.
  • Ensure administrative systems are developed and in place.
  • Develops the department’s annual goals and business plan with the manager.
  • Resolves major issues which require interpretation of policies and procedures.
  • Works with the manager to translate the Society’s strategic goals into a department Business Plan.
Evaluates and monitors success.
  • Provides oral and written reports to the leadership team, the board and community groups as required.
  • Develops marketing initiatives and collaborates with corporate marketing plan and the committee.
  • Implements and monitors lease agreements with user groups.
  • Develops sponsorships. Researches, writes, and applies for grants. Develops and initiates public/private
partnerships and initiatives.
  • Other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Undergraduate degree in Recreation Administration, Recreation and Health Education, Leisure Studies,
Physical Education or a related area from a recognized post-secondary institution or equivalent workexperience.
  • Minimum of five years experience working in a recreation programmer role with a strong background in
programming policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and leadership skills in program development, coordination and
evaluation is required.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with departmental staff, the public and outside
agencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to develop, monitor, and forecast departmental budget
requirements.
  • Experience in co-coordinating multi-faceted events and event facilitation at a local, regional, provincial,
and international level.
  • Ability to maintain records and compile brief reports.
  • Ability to measure, interpret, and implement performance measures.
  • Ability to function effectively both independently, and as member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task to meet deadlines and program requirements.
  • Computer skills include word processing, Excel, and recreation specific software.
  • Current National Lifeguard - Pool Option.
  • Current Emergency First Aid and CPR Certificates are required.
  • A valid class 5 BC Drivers’ Licence is required.
