Hybrid Work ModelThis position is located in our Victoria, BC office. You will have the opportunity to work part of the time on-campus and part of the time off-campus. Guidelines and requirements for in-office presence are determined by operational need and vary according to the unique needs of each business area.The opportunityWe are seeking a Board Officer to join our team in VICTORIA, British Columbia, Canada.As a Board Officer, you will support the delivery of secretariat services to the Municipal Pension Board of Trustees, including the provision of board governance expertise and compliance, policy development, board and committee meeting management and support, and trustee education.This role requires an individual with strong oral and written communication skills, who exercises good judgement and discretion. Your leadership skills will enable you to interact with a number of key stakeholders, including trustees, the Board Office team, and senior staff with the boards agents and service providers. Your organizational skills and strong attention to detail will allow you to juggle multiple and often competing priorities.The Board Officer works in a confidential environment and is required to deal with issues that are complex, sensitive and at times urgent.Who are WeThe Municipal Pension Plan (Plan) is the largest pension plan in BC and the sixth largest plan in Canada with over $70 billion in assets. It has approximately 400,000 members and more than 900 participating employers in the health, local government, community, education and other sectors. The Municipal Pension Board of Trustees (Board) is the Plan Administrator.The Board Officer is a key member of the small team known as the Office of the Municipal Pension Board of Trustees (Board Office), which includes a mix of board employees and pension corporate staff. All Board Office staff act in a confidential capacity to the board, providing governance and administrative support. Pursuant to Board and Pension Corporation delegations, the Board Office staff (regardless of employment terms) report to the Plans Executive Director, who is responsible for providing strategic support and advice to the Board, and for the successful leadership and management of the Board Office.What do you need to succeedMust have
  • A Bachelors degree in a related discipline (law, commerce, business administration, public administration, arts) or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • 3 years experience required in the following:
  • Experience in policy development, analysis and interpretation of legislation, regulations, contracts, and policy.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with proven ability to take initiative, motivate and influence others, including senior executives.
  • Experience researching, writing, and presenting a variety of materials.
Nice to have
  • Preference may be given to applicants with experience working in a corporate governance environment such as supporting the roles, responsibilities, and procedures of a board of trustees/directors
  • Experience in pension administration and/or legal practice preferred.
