Job Description

*Please note this is a twelve-month temporary position.Are you interested in the financial industry, are self directed but also work well in a tight knit team environment Join cash operations at BCI. This centralized function, executes cash movements for all departments and workstreams at BCI and is vital to meeting its objectives. The Analyst will primarily work on projects to facilitate, enhance and streamline workflows to support our stakeholders needs.Closing Date: January 4, 2022.Investment Operations (IO) is made up of four branches: Trade Management, Cash Operations, Business Solutions and Derivative Operations. These teams support trade settlement, manage daily cash flows and administer the derivative processing and collateral management for the Corporation.POSITION DESCRIPTIONThe Cash Operations Analyst reports to the Senior Analyst, Cash Operations and performs a wide range of duties in support of the overall goals of the Cash Operations branch. The Analyst works closely with the Senior Analyst to research business requirements and assists in the design and implementation of automated solutions for the branch. The Analyst is responsible for tapping the full potential of technological tools to accurately process high volumes of complex and diverse financial transactions within tight deadlines. Other duties may include managing a Co-op student, addressing queries from internal and external parties and representing the department on new projects or committees.Responsibilities include trouble shooting of issues encountered by the Cash Operations Associates, as well as problem solving of processing or system issues for the asset classes. Other duties include providing Payment Authority on cash authorization and developing procedures and workflows.QUALIFICATIONSMust have:

  • 1+ years of progressive experience in the back/middle office of a large asset management, investment firm, or banking institution
  • Foundational knowledge with financial instruments, including derivatives, accounting principles, unitized pool transactions, and global payment mechanisms
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to use involved formulas and macros
  • High level attention to detail
  • Ability to perform under pressure
  • Ability to learn new systems and technology effectively, train the team in new systems and technology, multi-task and trouble shoot
  • Ability to lead change management initiatives within the team
Preferred:
  • Completion or enrollment in Canadian Securities Course, Chartered Financial Analyst or the Investment Foundations Certificate
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Works collaboratively with the Cash Operations Analyst team and other Payment Authorities within the team to ensure department workflows are completed within deadlines
  • Support the implementation of Cash Capabilities Enhancement Project
  • Represents Cash Operations on various Corporate Initiatives and/or cross-departmental working groups
  • Provides Payment Authority for cash transactions
  • Provides backup for the Senior Analyst Illiquid Solutions, Cash Operations as required
  • Develops and reports trade transactional analysis for management reporting; conducts detailed review of all transactions, looking for anomalies, trends or themes in data and recommend appropriate action
  • Investigates queries from internal staff, BCI’s custodian, and auditors
  • Identifies and documents situations that would benefit from business process and/or IT improvements
  • Develops and implements new business procedures and participates in planning business and/or IT lead initiatives; assists in documenting changes to department policies, procedures and forms
  • Acts as "change agent", encouraging and advising Cash Operations branch on how to streamline and automate business processes by leveraging superior Excel, analytical skills and technological acumen
  • When required, processes transition of assets between external and internal portfolio managers
  • Supports the training of team members in implementing new systems, technology, processes and products
  • Actively adheres to compliance and risk management policies, and participates in business continuity planning
  • May manage a Co-op student, including attendance management, performance evaluation and work assignment.
