Job Description

JOB SUMMARYThe Communications and Development Coordinator assists in fund development, community development and communication projects for the Burnside Gorge Community Association. This position also provides direct support to the Executive Director.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCommunications and Public Relations

  • Oversees creation and distribution of communication materials including annual reports, press releases, community announcements, brochures, business cards, posters and website content
  • Oversees the maintenance of Association website & social media including Facebook and Twitter
  • Coordinates the planning, production, and distribution of the Burnside Gorge Community News (BGCN) and e-news
  • Oversees advertising for the BGCN including the creation of new ads, sales and billing
  • Monitors websites and electronic news-services for updated news and information relevant to the Association; selectively discerns and condenses relevant information for distribution to BGCA Board, staff, or broader community
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, identifies and responds to media opportunities, prepares key messages and speaking points
  • Attends events as needed to raise the profile of the Burnside Gorge Community Association
  • Provides written and photographic content as required
Funding Development Working in collaboration with the Executive Director:
  • Prepares grants, funding proposals and reports
  • Oversees online donation platforms – CanadaHelps, Charitable Impact, Benevity, etc
  • Coordinates donor correspondence – thank you letters, charitable tax receipts, etc
  • Prepares sponsorships requests, as needed, for programs and events * Develops, implements and evaluates fundraising strategies
  • Researches data on current fundraising and public relations programs, as well as potential individuals, corporate, foundation and government donors
  • Directs major fundraising projects as required Special Events
  • Provides event-day support as required
  • Responsible for media relations for events
  • In collaboration with Executive Director, coordinates the Association’s Annual General Meeting, open houses and community events
Board Support
  • Prepares meeting space and takes minutes for the monthly BGCA Board of Directors meeting
  • Provides support to Board committees as required
Community Development
  • Provides administration and coordination of the Cecelia Ravine Community Gardens, preparing contracts, coordinating volunteer work parties, managing waitlists, etc
  • Oversees community projects on an as-needed basis
  • Acts as main point of contact for community enquiries
  • Works with City of Victoria on environmental partnerships within the Burnside Gorge community
  • Oversees volunteer intake and recruitment
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
  • Experience working with variety of design platforms/programs - Adobe Creative Suite, Publisher, Canva, etc
  • Experience working with social media
  • Demonstrated fundraising and public relations abilities
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Well developed planning, organizing, controlling and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills
  • Drivers license an asset
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • The ability to function independently and work towards achieving fundraising goals in a prescribed deadline environment is an ongoing expectation.
  • Participation at meetings, publicity and other events typically involves evening and weekend work.
HOURS OF WORK & COMPENSATIONThis position is primarily Monday to Friday with some flexibility on days and hours and can accommodate 28-35 hours per week. Starting wage $25.00/hr. Paid sick leave. Extended health benefits after probationary period.
