Job Description

Digital News Editor (Full-time)Chek has been part of the fabric of the communities it serves since 1956 and continues to provide viewers with compelling and comprehensive news coverage from all across Vancouver Island seven days a week on multiple platforms.Here at Chek we are expanding our significant digital presence. We are looking for a talented, innovative, digital news editor to improve on-line delivery, develop and grow our audience reach and improve interaction.Key Responsibilities

  • Support and collaborate with a team of journalists
  • Prioritizing digital news and strategies, while also collaborating with the broadcast news team
  • Ability to select relevant stories, reflecting the values and diversity of our market
  • Strong writing and editing skills. Ensures our content is original and relevant and meets our journalistic standards
  • Responsible for creation and editing of on-line content and social media
  • Work with the news team to ensure content is customized to maximize value on each platform
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow distribution on current and emerging social media
  • Analyze digital metrics

Qualifications and Experience
  • Experienced multimedia journalist
  • Relevant post-secondary diploma or degree
  • Video editing and graphics skills an asset
  • 2 years minimum of recent, related experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian Press Style
  • CHEK Full-time employees are expected to participate in the employee share ownership program after one year of employment.
  • Covid Vaccination is a requirement
What we offer
  • This is a full-time unionized position in Group 2 as per the Collective Agreement
  • Schedule will primarily be 4 x 10 hours rotating shifts, may include evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Work location is primarily onsite at our Victoria head office.
