Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.The Ergonomic Consultant,conducts assessments and provides recommendations for appropriate individual and/or group Return to Work programs to support employees transition back to the workplace. The Consultant provides work site visits such as recommendations for minimizing risks identified, job coaching, ergonomic evaluations and education sessions. The Consultant coordinates Return to Work recommendations with theDisability Management Team, physicians, funding agencies and other medical professionals. The focus of the Consultant is on the prevention of injury or re-injury in the workplace.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And ExperienceA level of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in a related field and three (3) years related experience.Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge in musculoskeletal injury prevention
  • Ability to maintain confidences of personnel and health and safety matters
  • Demonstrated competency to teach in both individual and large group settings
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WorkSafe BC regulation relating to Ergonomics
  • Demonstrated ability to work under time constraints, with multiple priorities
  • Ability to interact with others effectively, often in highly charged emotional states
  • Superior investigative, analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop, facilitate and evaluate educational programs
  • Ability to maintain confidences of personal employee health files and matters
  • Ability to work independently and to make decisions guided by standards of practice, WorkSafe BC regulation and VIHA policies and procedures
  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload effectively
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a PC utilizing MS Office software applications and databases
  • Use of a personal vehicle to travel among multiple sites
  • Physical ability to carry out the position
