Job Description

School District No. 62 (Sooke), located in Langford, is presently seeking a temporary Financial Assistant for the Finance Department. It is a 35 hour per week temporary position for approximately 8 months starting January 3rd, 2023. The hourly rate of pay for this position is $27.22. Financial Operations:Assist with providing school cash system support to district staff.Provide school cash system reports to district staff.Review school generated fund cheques for appropriate authorizations and supporting documentation.Assist with preparing and/or reviewing monthly purchase card system reports.Verify calculations on invoices and employee expenses.Provide year end accounting support as required.Assist with the filing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other financial documentation.Assist with preparation of banking documentation.2. Financial Planning and Analysis:Assist with functions related to accounting, reporting, and forecasting.Prepare ad hoc reports and reconciliations for various departments.Assist in preparation and distribution of budget packages to stakeholders.Perform reconciliations and analysis of various accounts.Prepare and process journal entries.Assist in the configuration of the District’s Finance ERP system.3. General:Provide excellent customer service to requests for information and advice and direction to external and internal clients.Assist with creating system procedure documentation.Assist with continuous process improvements and efficiencies.Follow all policies, procedures and standards of the District.Perform other related duties as required.TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:Knowledge of applicable rules and regulations including GAAP and PSAS;Excellent verbal and written communication;Advanced spreadsheet and analytical skills are essential;Advanced knowledge of relevant software programs, including the ability to import/export data between programs.Operational knowledge of PowerSchool and KEV School Cash Online software programs would be considered an asset.BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:Teamwork and cooperation is the ability to work co-operatively with diverse teams, work groups and across the organization that includes the desire and ability to understand and respond effectively to other people from diverse backgrounds with diverse views.Listening, Understanding and Responding is the desire and ability to understand and respond effectively to other people from diverse backgrounds.
