Job Description

Victoria Chinatown Care Centre located in the heart of Canadas oldest Chinatown. We are a nursing home of 31 Complex Care Residents. Our facility draws on the communitys rich culture, unique foods, activities and social programs.JOB SUMMARY :

  • Responsible to report to the Director of Care and nurses.
  • Performs resident care duties related to personal hygiene, grooming, feeding, and transporting, and nursing procedures such as taking vital signs and giving enemas.
  • Performs related clerical duties such as maintaining charts and records.
  • Performs food service duties such as setting tables, portioning and serving meals, and preparing beverages.
  • Performs light cleaning duties such as sweeping and mopping floors.
  • Performs laundry duties such as sorting and folding linen, and operating domestic washers and dryers.
  • Ensures safety practices are adhered to.
DUTIES :
  • Assists residents with personal hygiene and grooming, including bathing, skin care, hair care, mouth care, nail care, toileting, and selection of appropriate clothing.
  • Assists residents to use adaptive devices such as eye glasses, hearing aides, prostheses, walkers, and wheelchairs. Reports damaged or inoperable devices.
  • Assists with meal service by setting tables, making tea and coffee, portioning and serving food and beverages, helping or feeding residents, and clearing tables. Sweeps and spot washes dining room floor after meals. Restocks dining room supplies.
  • Prepares between-meal snacks and beverages, transports to floors using wheeled carts, and serves to residents.
  • Assists residents to get to meals and activities by reminding them, assisting them if needed, and operating the elevator.
  • Performs nursing procedures such as measuring vital signs and weights, giving suppositories and enemas, obtaining specimens, and applying non-sterile dressings, as required by care plans or as requested by the team leader.
  • Reports changes in resident condition to the team leader. Records procedures done and care provided.
  • Strips and makes beds. Assists residents to keep bedrooms and bathrooms tidy. Reports when residents need more personal supplies or clothing.
  • In the absence of housekeeping / laundry staff, empties waste containers and removes garbage from building.
  • In the absence of housekeeping / laundry staff, loads and unloads domestic washers and dryers, operates same by selecting wash cycles, setting temperatures, and switching machines on and off. Sorts, folds, and puts away linen and resident clothing. Performs minor mending of resident clothing by hand.
  • Performs related clerical duties such as wetting up new charts, restocking forms, and filing.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :Education, Training and Experience:
  • Graduation from a recognized Nursing Assistant program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
