The department manages the Corporation’s business applications and information technology infrastructure, providing support to a large group of financial professionals. The department is also responsible for authoring technology-related directives and conducting disaster recovery planning to minimize risk to the Corporation’s delivery of investment services.POSITION DESCRIPTIONReporting to the Director of Enterprise Architecture, the Innovation Lead is critical to identify and bring to life new technologies that could have a significant impact on BCI’s organizational performance. The Innovation Lead is responsible for creating a compelling vision establishing the innovation practice within the organization, promoting a culture of innovation. They will oversee a portfolio of innovation initiatives and successfully transition them to delivery, cross-functional teams and external partners to delivery those initiatives.QUALIFICATIONSMotivated to create a startup-like environment that fosters new ideas within established business lines.Relevant senior level experience in financial services, investment managementMust have an entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated drive to get things doneExperience with innovation, Agile and change management methodsExperience with organizational culture and development strategies, initiatives, and action plansExcellent communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to facilitate and present to a range of stakeholders – executive, business, and technology teamsA track record of starting or being involved in one or more early-stage start-ups is desiredExposure to patents and intellectual propertyBachelor’s degree (or higher) in a Business, Entrepreneurship, Information Systems Management, or similar degreePRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESThis role will be required to collaborate with many other BCI departments such as Business Account Management, Technology, Enterprise Architecture, to accomplish the following:Research & Gather IdeasResearch and synthesize business and technology trends that are relevant to the investment management industry and BCI, and develops a core understanding of key innovation opportunitiesDevelop and seeks innovation ideas internally by screening various sources, conducting workshops, leading brainstorming sessions, and establishing new approachesDevelop and seeks innovation ideas externally by innovation scouting activities and searching forideas with applicability to BCI from adjacent and other industriesLead stakeholders through the evaluation of innovation ideas, opportunities, risks, strengths, and weaknesses in alignment with BCI strategiesEvaluate & PrioritizeManage the evaluation, prioritization, and selection of innovation ideas with the highest potentialto realize maximum business value and improve BCI business outcomes and performanceDetermine funding suitability for high potential ideas and facilitates the approval processTransition Projects to Delivery TeamsManage the transition of the innovation project results to the sponsoring business/technology area effectively and efficiently, providing transition support as neededLiaise with internal and external subject matter experts to manage any BCI intellectual property resulting from innovation efforts with the help of legal and compliance specialists.Setup Innovation Processes & PartnershipsDevelop, implements, and continually improve an Innovation Program including establishing an innovation governance mechanism and related business processesEstablish innovation KPIs and tracks, measures, and communicates progress and resultsBuild and cultivates opportunities to improve innovation literacy, awareness, and engagementIdentifies, builds, and sustains productive and positive strategic partnerships with external service providersCreate a supportive and healthy working environment within the Department by ensuring effective communication, promoting teamwork, and providing opportunities for other staff to participate in innovation activitiesCOMPETENCIESStrategic ThinkingEffective performers act with the future in mind.
