Job Description

Pacific Design Academy in downtown Victoria BC is seeking part-time instructors to teach in the Application & Web Development (AWD) program.Our ideal candidate has a minimum of the following criteria:

  • at least 2-3 years of full-stack software development experience
  • in possession of or currently working toward a college degree
  • experience working on several software projects.
As an instructor you will:
  • Be responsible for teaching classes, working individually with students, assessing student progress, and tracking attendance.
  • Create a professional and positive learning environment that is welcoming and accommodating to beginners learning technical subjects for the first time.
  • Work with the existing curriculum while developing lesson plans to engage with students possessing different levels of experience.
  • Contribute improvements and updates to the curriculum to keep courses robust and consistent with changes in the industry.
PDA’s AWD instructor positions require individuals with a broad range of technical expertise:
  • Solid understanding of Object Oriented programming concepts. Java is preferred.
  • Solid technical and professional skills working with web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, responsive design, JavaScript, Node.js, DOM manipulation, React, and CMS environments.
  • Project management process and practices: requirements gathering, analysis, modeling, documentation, teamwork, communication, agile & waterfall.
  • Cloud Computing, DevOps, and virtualization: network, storage, and desktop applications.
  • Database concepts, design, schema, algorithms, relational & non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB, etc)
  • Mobile app development processes. Project-based familiarity with either AndroidOS or iOS applications development and deployment.
Instructor positions also require:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and explanation of concepts in a classroom setting, and creation of written examples of code and classroom presentation documentation.
  • Effective organization and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated independent judgment and initiative-taking.
Preference is given to applicants who have the following:
  • teaching experience at secondary or post-secondary level.
  • a related technical degree or diploma.
  • five+ years of project-based Application and Web Development experience.
