This position focuses on using geoscience databases, applications, technology and emerging data science to develop and deliver dynamic and innovative mineral potential assessments in the province of British Columbia.   • Registered or eligible for immediate registration as a fully qualified Professional Geoscientist with the Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
      • Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a professional in another Canadian jurisdiction and able to transfer that membership to a BC professional association within 6 months of employment. It is the responsibility of the applicant to have their qualifications reviewed by the appropriate body to ensure they have the necessary requirements for registration.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Geology, Physical Geography or closely related discipline and minimum 5 years’ experience in mineral exploration, mining, mapping, or other related geoscience, of which at least 2 years has been in Canada; OR
  • Master’s Degree in Geology, Physical Geography or closely related discipline and minimum 3 years’ experience in mineral exploration, mining, mapping, or other related geoscience, of which at least 2 years has been in Canada.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in numeric analyses, statistic, modelling and other advanced computation.
  • Experience with mineral potential assessment methods and data requirements
  • Experience using GIS tools such as ArcGIS, FME, Manifold, MapInfo, or QGIS; spatial database systems such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server spatial, or Oracle spatial.
  • Experience supervising contractors and managing projects.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Geology, geochemistry, mineral resources, mineral deposits, Quaternary geology and/or other related areas of expertise.
  • Geology, mineral deposits and mineral exploration in the Canadian Cordillera.
  • Geospatial/Statistical/mathematical libraries and packages such as GDAL/OGR, R, SAS, SPSS, Matlab, Octave, Maple, or Mathematica.
  • Spatial statistical and geochemical modelling methods in spatial prediction, interpolation, and spatial pattern detection: spatial auto-correlation, cross-validation, and clustering.
  • Machine learning, data mining, and modelling algorithms and libraries.
  • Mineral potential assessment approaches, methods, procedures, practices and implementations.
  • Experience in presenting geoscientific results to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Applying sound scientific judgement; managing independent and innovative research and interpret diverse geoscience data.
  • Publishing geoscience data and results in peer-reviewed journals and government literature.
  • International and open standards and specifications for geoscience and geospatial, e.g., ISO, Open Geospatial Consortium, International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) / Commission for the Application and Management of Geoscience Information (CGI), and International Commission for Stratigraphy.
