Job Description

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Planning & Scheduling, the Scheduler is responsible for preparing efficient and effective work schedules that reduce bus downtime while maximizing garage and labour productivity for the Victoria Regional Transit System (VRTS). The incumbent will understand and support scheduling to lean principles while utilizing the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems.ACCOUNTABILITIESPrepares and oversees the creation, handover and execution of effective and efficient resource loaded maintenance work schedules that include:preventive maintenance and inspection activitiescertifications and registration (incl. CVIP, licensing, etc…)recalls or campaigns (incl. warranty, oil sampling, safety concerns or other)major component rebuilds or replacements (incl. transmissions, engines, differentials, etc…)capital projects and programs (incl. full driver door, real-time, midlife upgrades or refits)operational reactive repairs (incl. defect cards and customer service requests)coordination of parts and material supplytooling, equipment, bay or space requirements, and;prepares work packages, plans and requirements for the aboveFollows the framework, guidelines and processes for use of work orders including prioritization and execution of work, backlog management, status monitoring, schedule adherence and data qualityIdentifies and flags recoverable work orders (ie: warranty, capital, inter-divisional) to ensure necessary documentation is provided and obtainedProvides progress updates, reports, statistics, KPI’s and ad-hoc analysis to VRTS management of down buses and the daily, weekly and monthly work plans or schedulesConsolidates CMMS and non-CMMS data in support of the Senior Planner related to the reporting out of key performance indicators in regards to the scheduling and execution of work plans to key stake holders within asset managementAssists in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, standards and systems to optimize plan and schedule effectivenessSupports and maintains consistency between garage facilities in accordance to corporate policies and procedures to enhance safety, reliability, efficiency, effectiveness and customer servicePerforms related duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the jobJob Requirements:Post Secondary Education (minimum 2 year) or Journeyperson from either a Heavy Duty, Commercial Transport or Automotive background3+ years of equipment maintenance planning experience or in lieu of related experience those with journeyperson background in bus/transit or truck and transport with preference for those with lead hand or charge hand experienceProficient with computers and willing to learn and support shop workflow and administration including:Service WritingWork Order ManagementWork Packages (incl. campaigns, repair instructions, parts lists, etc…)Resource Loaded Scheduling (incl. labour, equipment and parts supply)Look-ahead schedules (incl. weekly, monthly or ad-hoc)Related Email CorrespondenceIntermediate to advanced computer literacy with specific knowledge of:MS Office suite preferred (Excel, Word, Power Point)Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) experience with JD Edwards considered an assetScheduling Software incl. Work Breakdown Structures Scheduling SoftwareA proven team player who is able to work well in a multi-tasking, fast-paced, environmentEffective verbal and written communication skillsTECHNICAL FUNCTIONS

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to develop complex supply and resource loaded work schedules that are sequenced to maximize shop and manpower efficiency
  • Problem-solving and timely decision-making skills to determine priorities and optimize use of resources across multi-shift and facility operations
  • Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques related to the repair, maintenance and overhaul of motor vehicles, heavy duty vehicles, and related equipment
  • Working knowledge of CVSE regulations and requirements for buses and facilities
  • Awareness and an understanding of the principles and ideologies of ISO 55000, ISO 55001 and Lean 6 Sigma
  • Awareness of safety standards, practices and procedures relating to transit & fleet operations
  • Maintains and advances technical trainings relevant to position and industry
NON-TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with tradespersons as well as other union or office professionals
  • Moderate to intermediate levels of conflict resolution and influencing skills with understanding and awareness of when to seek out and involve supervision and/or human resources
  • Analytical mindset to identify improvements to systems and processes and support data driven decision making
  • Detail orientated, diligent and motivated with a strong work ethic, positive team attitude and customer service focus
  • Willingness to learn and apply new tools and systems to better support BC Transits bus fleet
  • Attitude conducive to positive employee (ie: customer) relations
  • Assertive and self-motivated with good organizational skills
  • A proven track record of appropriate communication
WORK SHIFT/HOURS:
  • This is a unionized shift position (Article 11.01) that works a predefined shift in order to provide 7d per week coverage to garages
  • Overtime is not a frequent requirement of the position, but may arise on occasion
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Participates in daily coordination meetings with Supervision, Charge Hand and Parts Person
  • Participates in Weekly and Monthly garage and/or planning and scheduling meetings
  • Supports the generation and distribution of CMMS PM reports
