Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.Reporting to the Manager or designate, the Clinical Coordinator and Practice Lead has dual accountability of practice lead to support practice standards for existing Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and also to coordinate student placement and student learning.The Clinical Coordinator and Practice Lead is accountable for the development, implementation and maintenance of practice standards for Diagnostic Medical Sonography within Medical Imaging Services for all Island Health sites. Under the direction of operational leaders, Radiologist lead, and management, provides regional wide leadership, direction and guidance on practice activities and advancing practice, research and education. Duties include reviewing and implementing consistent practice standards, goals and objectives in conjunction with the Manager and other team members and leading the development and standardization of modality specific policies and procedures, quality assurance, continuing education and training programs.The Clinical Coordinator and Practice Lead supports Diagnostic Medical Sonography teams, Diagnostic Medical Sonography preceptors and Diagnostic Medical Sonography students throughout Island Health by planning, organizing and monitoring student education in collaboration with Post Secondary Institutions and Professional Practice. The Clinical Coordinator and Practice Lead coordinates student placement, determines goals and objectives, evaluates student progress and is the main resource for site preceptors. The Clinical Coordinator and Practice Lead supports diagnostic medical sonographers, clinical leaders, preceptors, and staff and liaises with post-secondary institutions in clinical quality improvement initiatives and their endeavors to provide a quality learning environment for students.Regular travel between all sites during the clinical placement period. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training And Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program; and
  • Credentialed by Sonography Canada as Canadian Registered Generalist Sonographer (CRGS) and/or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (RDMS and RDCS); and
  • Four (4) years recent, related diagnostic medical sonography experience in an acute health care setting including one years recent experience in a supervisory or teaching capacity; and
  • Eligible for registration with Sonography Canada (CRGS); and
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.Skills And Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety requirements related to diagnostic medical sonography.
  • Ability to effectively apply adult education principles and research methodology.
  • Able to promote a culture of enquiry and evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice related to diagnostic medical sonography.
  • Able to develop project plans and implement new projects.
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
