Job Description

Position Title: Payroll SpecialistDepartment: FinanceDays/Hours of Work: Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Status: Full-time RegularUnion: n/aPOSITION SUMMARY:Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Payroll Specialist plays a critical part in ensuring an excellent employee experience at Beacon. This role is responsible for all payroll related processes, systems and data and provides knowledgeable service to employees and managers. The position works closely with Beacon’s Finance and HR teams, directors and managers throughout the organization, our payroll service provider as well as regulatory and reporting bodies.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process all aspects of payroll for unionized and non-unionized employees using Payworks
  • Provide statutory payroll reports and remittances as well as labour cost reporting
  • Maintain employee wage/salary grids to streamline positions and set wage/salary ranges
  • Assist Manager of Finance in developing annual labour budget and monitoring actual to budget on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Address and resolve inquiries regarding payroll and payroll reporting
  • Prepare payroll and leave reports and statistics to program departments and others upon request
  • Work with managers and directors to ensure accurate employee documentation and payroll data entry
  • Maintain accurate payroll records including pay periods, hourly wages, salaries, overtime, sick days, vacation days, other leaves, benefits etc.
  • Verify employee records and consult program managers/directors of any discrepancy
  • Participate in workflow automation and process improvement initiatives
  • Other payroll related projects as directed by the Manager of Finance
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation coupled with at least three years’ experience providing payroll services independently or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience using comprehensive payroll software (Payworks preferred)
  • Administrative technology certificate or an associate degree is preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Proven experience working as a payroll specialist in a fast-paced organization
  • Sound knowledge of tax and wage laws is an asset
  • Excellent computer skills in the Microsoft Office 365 suite of software, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, MS Teams and advanced Excel skills.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong client service orientation
  • Accurate and meticulous attention to detail in data entry, pay calculations and review
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Trustworthiness with emphasis on confidentiality and ethical conduct
