Competition #22/236Internal/External PostingClosing date: October 27, 2022Pool and Building Operator (Auxiliary)Parks, Recreation and Facilities DepartmentPOSITION FUNCTIONOperate, maintain and repair swimming pool filtration systems, water chemistry, building systems and components, including boilers and HVAC at Crystal Pool and Royal Athletic Park, in accordance with required health and safety standards and acts.KEY DUTIESOperate, repair and maintain water treatment, filtration and heating systems and their components for various pool systems within established standards; monitor, adjust and record water chemistry; monitor, clean and repair filtration units; fill chemical feeders; service and repair pumps, motors and related equipment; record pool service information on data sheets and perform building security functions. Change chlorine gas cylinders according to safety procedure, maintain and repair gas chlorine feed system.Operate and maintain building structure, operating systems and contents to ensure the safety of the staff and members of the public; monitor and service air handling units (HVAC systems), fans, dampers, filters, heat pumps, refrigeration units, boilers and pneumatic controls and energy control systems; program and monitor computerized energy management system and calibrate remote sensors.Perform a variety of technical maintenance tasks to maintain and repair pool and building equipment such as diving boards, ladders, sauna, steam/ozone generators, steam room, exercise equipment, plumbing fixtures, handicap lifts, ceiling tiles, pool floor, concession equipment, lights and touch-up painting; maintain and refine the preventative maintenance program and schedules for the Crystal Pool; assess need for supplies and equipment and provide all recommendations to supervisor; operate a vehicle to pick up and deliver parts and supplies.Repair, maintain and calibrate a variety of safety devices and alarm systems for the detection of hazardous materials such as chlorine, ozone and boiler malfunctions. Respond to alarms and emergencies and take the necessary measures to ensure public and staff safety.Set up chairs, tables and equipment for special events and activities.Perform related duties where qualified.INDEPENDENCEWork is performed according to established maintenance procedures and schedules, requests for service or is assigned by supervisor.Work is reviewed through daily meetings with supervisor.Issues such as non-routine purchases or changes to equipment or procedures are discussed with supervisor.WORKING CONDITIONSPhysical Effort:Lift and move heavy objects. (often)Required to work irregular shifts (premium item).KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIESOrganize and prioritize work.Understand and apply the techniques regarding the operation and maintenance of water treatment, filtration equipment, HVAC systems, boilers and applicable safety standards and acts.Use hand tools and power equipment.Basic level operation of a personal computer; working knowledge of energy management system.Perform building and equipment repairs and maintenance.Maintain accurate records.Establish and maintain effective working relationships.Deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.Work safely on job sites.QUALIFICATIONSFormal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:High school graduation.Fourth Class Power Engineering Trades Certification. (2 years) – or approved equivalentBCRPA Pool Operator Level 1 & 2. (32 hours)Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate.
