The successful candidate has spent time working in production and writing roles in deadline-driven newsrooms and is looking to take the next step working for Canada’s number one news organization.Job Duties/Accountabilities:Create the daily vision, produce and execute engaging and exciting daily newscasts and segmentsWrite and vet news copy: intros, voiceovers, bumpers, and reporter scriptsSource compelling content from network sources to augment locally-shot itemsKeep on top of what’s happening locally; monitor social media, wires, and other news sourcesTake the two-hour live evening newscast to air from the control roomQualifications/Competencies:Proven background in news producing with a strong editorial sense and news judgementJournalism / University level education a definite assetMust be a skilled writer. Writing and editing copy is a cornerstone of the positionSelf-initiative and ability to work independently under pressure of deadlinesPreferred Qualifications/Competencies:Minimum 3 years newsroom experienceKeen interest in and understanding of current events, local community issues and political structuresStrong editorial judgment and the ability to make quick decisionsAble to foster an environment of teamwork and collaborationStrong communication and organizational skillsExperience in Electronic News Gathering, Video/Audio/EditingBilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.Additional Information:Position Type: ManagementJob Status: Regular - Full TimeJob Location: Canada : British Columbia : VictoriaApplication Deadline: 07/16/2021Please apply directly online to be considered for this role.
