Job Description

Service Desk Co-opOpen to students registered in a recognized co-op program onlyBC Pension Corporation, Victoria BC

  • Duration: Summer 2022 (May to August)
  • Location: Victoria (our office is situated on the Selkirk Waterfront on the Gorge Inlet. Enjoy stunning views of downtown Victoria and the Olympic mountains and take advantage of the nearby Galloping Goose Regional Trail for walking and biking).
  • Salary: $1,590.33 bi-weekly (for students working towards a diploma or bachelors degree) or $1,869.36 (for students working towards a post-graduate degree)
  • Grant: As part of our inVESTED scholarship program, you may be eligible for reimbursement up to a maximum of $1,000 per four-month work term to cover the cost of co-op work term tuition fees.
  • Hybrid Work Model: Employees are supported to work part of their time from home and part of their time on campus to encourage flexibility, performance and connection.
  • Skills for Success Program: Engage with other co-op students in a monthly virtual event designed to build connection and community while developing skills to support your success.
  • Team: The IT Operations unit has responsibility for planning, designing, creating, testing, implementing, enhancing and supporting BC Pension Corporations desktop and data centre environments. These environments, supported by the Operations team, contain hardware and software for servers, personal computers, networks (local and external) and telephones, all enabling the Pension Corporations mission critical applications to be highly available and deliver the business function mandates. The systems run in a mixed environment - Unix/Oracle, MVS/IMS and Web-based applications and the systems include J2EE Portal Architecture using Oracle 11g and Java-based application services.
The Job ResponsibilitiesThis position focuses on the provision of support for workstation hardware, software and attached peripherals. In doing so, this position adheres to ITB Standards for technology, configuration change, and operations. This position is under the leadership and guidance of the Service Desk Supervisor. Assignments will include independent tasks responding to Service Desk request tickets and working with corporate staff to improve the operational infrastructure.RequirementsThis opportunity is available to 3rd or 4th year Computer Science and Software/Computer Engineering students.Knowledge and/or experience in the following areas would be an asset:
  • HelpDesk or user support capacity
  • Configuring, analyzing and resolving technical problems with Windows 10 Operating Systems and MS Office 365 applications
  • Repairing desktops and installing components
  • Troubleshooting and resolving Windows software configuration problems
  • Troubleshooting and resolving network and local printer problems
  • Microsoft Remote Server Administration Tools
  • Remote Assistance end user support
  • Remote administration tool sets (M365, SCCM, PStools & Active Directory)
Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in the following tool sets currently in use within the Pension Corporation:
  • Use of Request Tracking Software
  • Remote administration tool sets (SCCM, PStools or Active Directory)
  • ITIL v3 Foundations
