Vacancy Posting – Competition #2021-06-21 SPC p-tPosted date: June 21, 2021Closing date: July 9, 2021Position: Special Projects Coordinator (part-time)NOTE: This position will focus on two particular projects (refer to jobdescription below)Hours of work: 17.5 hours per weekContract period: Ends March 31, 2022Location of work: 930 Balmoral Road, Victoria BCRate of pay: $29.59 per hourThe Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) helps immigrants and refugees meet theirsocial, cultural, and economic goals. Comprised of dedicated staff and volunteers, ICA provideslanguage instruction, support finding housing and employment and a range of other services. Inaddition, ICA actively engages our community to strengthen connections between immigrants andthose born in Canada. Through our work, we build a strong, diverse, and vibrant community. ICAis a welcoming, passionate, and energetic organization that has had a positive impact in theGreater Victoria region for nearly 50 years.Job description:Project 1: Oral Health Pathways – provide support and awareness to clients on the benefits oforal health care as well as to dental clinics to increase refugee access to dental services. Projectactivities include newcomer oral health kits and education as well as outreach and relationshipbuilding with dental clinics in the region.Project 2: Safeguarding Diverse Women - provide awareness training and opportunities at ICA ongender-based violence for immigrant and refugee women. The project activities include trainingfor settlement staff, community education sessions for other community organizations and one-on-one support for survivors of gender-based violence.Both of these projects include referrals for vulnerable clients for support with systems navigation,education, advocacy, and community referrals (as it relates to oral health and gender-basedviolence). Plans, designs, and facilitates/co-facilitates the delivery of relevant topics. Serves allindividuals, including BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ and Indigenous, and those with diverse abilities. Reportsto the Immigrant and Refugee Services Manager.Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline (refugee and/or forced migration studies,
intercultural studies, social studies, social work, or business administration). Graduate degreepreferred, or combination of education, training and experience may be considered.Specialized training related to professional development on themes pertinent tosettlement/resettlement and integration as desirable.
  • Previous work experience within social services, not-for-profit, and/or multicultural
environment.
  • Three years’ experience coordinating a major program, with superior administrative skills, and
working with immigrants and refugees.
  • Experience writing successful funding proposals, developing program logic models and
outcomes-based programming.
  • Experience developing and working with budgets.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.
  • Proficiency in a settlement and/or resettlement language preferred.
  • Indigenous cultural competencies and/or lived experience with Indigenous communities
welcomed.Key duties and responsibilities
  • Identifies training and education needs across ICA, in close collaboration with departmental
managers and coordinators.
  • Plans, designs, delivers and/or coordinates the delivery of training initiatives in collaboration
with respective area managers/coordinators or workshop/course facilitators.
  • Identifies emerging trends in order to proactively address the training needs of ICA.
  • Develops “train-the-trainer” curricula to expand ICA’s training resources.
  • Assists ICA staff and supervisors in scheduling topical guest speakers for the special topics
within settlement services.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with other service providers to identify suitable
guest speakers or training facilitators for ICA’s courses, workshops, and community linkages forclient service relevant to special projects.
  • Executes special topics orientations, workshops, and life skills/education training courses, in the
absence of facilitators.
  • Contributes and responsible for special projects program planning and implementation;
  • Participates in training opportunities to stay current on issues impacting ICA’s clients and staff.
  • Contributes community capacity building within special projects to enhance client service
access and referrals; may involve direct referrals in collaboration with ICA Settlement staff .
  • Creates awareness of anti-oppressive/social justice issues.
  • Organizes, chairs, and/or participates in regular team and organization-wide staff meetings;
Follows all ICA policies and administrative procedures.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

barriers, service access and education, in alignment with legislation and regulations, and linkthese to the responsibilities, capabilities and potential of the organization.
  • Demonstrate specialized knowledge of access to community linkages and barriers experienced
by immigrants and refugees.
  • Seek out and form collaborations and partnerships, including through public outreach events
and speaking engagements on refugees and forced migration.
  • Apply strong oral and written communication skills that demonstrate a high level of attention
to detail and accuracy, knowledge of technical writing principles, and clarity of thought.
  • Demonstrate a high level of computer proficiency and advanced understanding of data
collection systems.
  • Demonstrate effective use of technology in all aspects of the job.
  • Practice time and resource management techniques.
  • Demonstrate effective teamwork in a diverse team setting.
  • Practice effective interpersonal and intercultural communication techniques

Additional information
  • Some travel to community locations within Greater Victoria will be required. Occasional travel
to locations in other parts of British Columbia and/or Canada for purposes like professionaldevelopment, networking, or conferences may also be required.
  • Some work outside of regular office hours, including evenings and weekends, may be
required. Flex time schedules will be made to accommodate non-regular work hours.
  • ICA compensates overtime hours with time off in lieu.
  • Valid BC driver’s license, and access to a car would be an asset.
  • As a condition of hire, an updated criminal record check, including vulnerable populations
