Job Description

Position Title:System Administrator (Intermediate)Reports to:Managed Services SupervisorSummary:The System Administrator will work within practiced team environments providing support of customer infrastructure and technology.Charter, a highly respected and value driven VAR, delivers voice and collaboration solutions as well as many other technology verticals including routing and switching, data center, cloud, wireless and security. Partnering with several industry leading vendors, Charter solutions are diverse, flexible and deliver business outcomes. The System Administrator will participate in a wide variety of activities, providing the candidate with opportunity for a high growth career and personal enrichment.Skills Overview:The role is diverse in its exposure to technology and vendors but is focused on network & systems support. While it is not mandatory that candidates have skills in all of the areas listed below, priority consideration will be given to those that possess previous experience in several areas and desire to broaden their exposure and experience to align with the tactical and strategic directions within Charter.Charter partners with several top technology vendors, including Cisco Systems, Juniper, Extreme, NetApp, Microsoft/Azure and others. The candidate should come with a strong ability to learn and adapt quickly to as many as possible:Unified Communications (Voice) – Cisco Webex, Microsoft Teams/SkypeCloud – O365, Active Directory, Azure, Skype for Business/TeamsRouting and Switching – Cisco Catalyst/ISR, Juniper EX/MX/SRX, MerakiPerimeter Security Firewalls – Cisco ASA, Juniper SRX, Meraki, Palo AltoWireless – Cisco, Meraki, Juniper MIST, AerohiveData Center – Cisco UCS, NetApp, Veeam, VMware, Hyper-V, ESXiManagement Platforms – Cisco Prime, Juniper Space, SKY ATPAutomation – PowerShell, Ansible, Puppet, PythonIn addition to the above, the candidates should highlight any additional relevant technical skills that may be applicable to the Charter business.Responsibilities & Accountabilities:TeamworkWork cooperatively within a team to provide support to Charter customers.Attend team huddles and be an active participant in team planning activities.Bring subject matter expertise and leadership in Microsoft Active Directory and applications.Use provided workflow tools to reflect the status of tickets, tasks, effort/labour etc.Identify areas to create, improve and maintain Charter intellectual property in the form of configuration templates, testing guides and other tools that assist in allowing Charter to be efficient and support with high quality.Work with the team to improve the overall quality and completeness of documentation.Create, maintain, and update the Infrastructure knowledge base including but not limited to playbooks, SOPs and technical information.Work collaboratively within the broader team (pre-sales, architecture, project delivery) to bring your skills to bear where and when they are required.Support DeskProvides timely delivery of communications regarding troubleshooting and restoration of services.Tier 2 Remote Support & incident resolution.Develops, maintains, and continually improves standardized work practices.Responsible for systems availability, latency, performance, incident response and problem management of the production systems.Handle production deployments, system administration tasks, and backups.Work with Aligned vendors for Tier 3 Support.Assist in establishing governance, process and identify efficiencies.Administer and coordinate devices for new team members.Establish and implement detailed onboarding and off-boarding procedures.Provide reports and activity updates to Team Lead / Supervisor.Essential Skills:The intermediate System Administrator will be responsible for:Administration and troubleshooting Active Directory and Group PolicyAdministration and troubleshooting of VMware, Networking and Storage environmentInstallation, management and troubleshooting Windows Server & PC infrastructureNetwork Services (LAN, DNS, VLAN, VPN & Wireless)Application support (Cisco VOIP, MS Exchange, O365)Qualifications and Experience:Minimum 5 years of experience in IT & Infrastructure administration.Experience with VMware and Microsoft environments is a must.Competence in the configuration and troubleshooting of networking hardware, specifically switches, routers, firewalls and wireless access points considered a strong asset.Ability to establish strong working relationships and to excel in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated ability to obtain and hold industry certifications such as VMware VCP or Microsoft certificates. Current certifications are not mandatory, but it is expected the candidate will obtain what is necessary as part of professional development.Time management, organizational skills, and excellent communication skills are greatly desired.Possess outstanding attention to detail and problem-solving skills.Ability to follow through on issues until resolved.Excellent organization and highly detailed with proactive action-oriented mindset.Efficient problem-solving skills able to analyze and provide solution to incidents.Excellent working knowledge and experience of Infrastructure support, Data Centre and IT operations.Strong interpersonal communications (Phone, Email, WebEx) with ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and written, to technical and business personnelWillingness to learn new systems and vendors, as neededAbility to identify, document and recommend solutions to problems accurately.Working Conditions:Full-time, PermanentOvertime as requiredPart of on-call rotationMinimal Travel – Less than 10%Comprehensive benefits package with profit sharing
