Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.Position SummaryThe Vice President, Privacy & Privacy Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining the organization’s privacy and compliance program and managing the privacy of data within Maximus Canada. The Vice President, Privacy is also responsible for constructing the company’s policies, procedures and strategies relating to the privacy of data – client and citizen data as well as organizational data. Maintaining comprehensive and current knowledge of both corporate operations and privacy laws, as well as communicating details of the companys privacy policy to employees and clients alike. Key Accountabilities

  • Create and maintain a privacy and compliance program for the company defining, developing, and implementing policies and procedures that enable consistent and effective privacy practices, minimizing risk and ensuring the confidentiality of protected information
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the organization’s personal information handling policies and procedures and of the organization’s responsibilities under federal, provincial and territorial privacy statutes that apply to the protection of personal information in the private, public and health sectors
  • Work with senior management, security, and corporate compliance officers to govern the privacy and compliance program
  • Work with legal counsel, management, and key departments, such as Human Resources, ensuring the organization has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consent, authorization forms and information notices and materials reflecting current organization and legal practices and requirements
  • Collaborate with information security officer(s) with Canada and the United States, ensuring security concerns are aligned
  • Collaborate with the corporate Privacy Office to ensure alignment to a recognized privacy program framework and to baseline privacy compliance.
  • Establish an ongoing program to track, investigate and report inappropriate access and disclosure of protected data
  • Perform initial and periodic information privacy risk assessment, analysis, mitigation, and remediation
  • Oversee, develop, and deliver initial and ongoing privacy training to employees
  • Work with other organizational units to oversee the rights of clients and/or citizens to inspect, amend and restrict their personal data
  • Manage all breach determination and notification processes under applicable federal and provincial laws
  • Conduct or supervise complaint investigations
  • Work with the organization’s administration, legal counsel and others to represent the organization’s information privacy interests with external parties
  • Cooperate with federal and provincial regulators in compliance reviews or investigations
  • Serve as an information privacy resource to the organization regarding the release of information when privacy issues arise
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of industry specifics regarding federal and provincial laws governing privacy
  • Advocate privacy within the organization

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • Legal background and experience preferred
  • 10+ Years of progressively senior experience in the field
  • Experience working in privacy from a national perspective preferred
  • Certifications in CISSP, CIPT, CIPM, CIPP, CHPC, CHPS would be considered an asset
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Expert knowledge of the federal, provincial and territorial privacy statutes that apply to the protection of personal information in the private, public and health sectors, including but not limited to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Privacy Act, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, the Personal Information Protection Act (Alberta), the Personal Information Protection Act (British Columbia), An Act Respecting the Protection of Personal Information in the Private Sector (Quebec), and guidance issued by the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta and the Quebec Commission on Access to Information
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and oral communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience in federal and provincial information privacy laws, including privacy impact assessment and breach management and notification
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders
