Job Description

Tundra Oil & Gas is a Manitoba-based oil and gas exploration and production company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Winnipeg-based James Richardson & Sons, Limited. Tundra’s head office is in Winnipeg, with additional offices in Virden and Calgary. We are committed to working together and to getting everyone home safe every day.Tundra is seeking a Remediation Coordinator out of our Virden, Manitoba office. This position will be responsible for the coordination, management, and site supervision of Tundra’s Major Remediation projects in support of Tundra’s Sustainability best practices. This will include rehabilitation field work on legacy assets and active asset incident management. The incumbent in this role with be eligible to participate in our hybrid work program.Reporting to the Manager, Land Reclamation, the principal duties, and responsibilities of the Remediation Coordinator includes, but are not limited to:

  • Follow and enforce all safety and security procedures
  • Manage and facilitate remediation projects of various sizes and degrees of difficulty
  • Assess, communicate, and remediate on site materials with applicable documentation and regulatory filings under Tundra’s incident s
  • Administer and conduct activities for all remediation projects
  • Secure applicable federal and provincial environmental approvals and certification
  • Preparation of accurate cost estimates and expenditure submissions
  • Identify upstream products and site characteristics to asses environmental impacts through spatial pattern mapping
  • Assess and evaluate soil, groundwater, sediment, and surface water data
  • Select, design, install and evaluate remediation systems
  • Supervise and coordinate consultants, contractors, and field personnel
  • Build and maintain sampling programs used to confirm the progress of each site
  • Solicit and evaluate professional reports from Environmental firms
  • Manage contracts, progress, and budgets for remediation projects
  • Provide support and guidance to field operators of environmental best practice and reporting
  • Maintain Generwell, tracker spreadsheets, and electronic filing system
  • Cost tracking and reporting for Business Development Teams
  • Prepare reports and presentations for Sr. Management
  • Conduct verification sampling to assess the progress of site cleanups
  • Prepare proposals and write remediation reports
  • Inspection and site audits as required
  • Perform additional assignments as per supervisor’s direction
Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
  • Post-Secondary education required in any of the following areas of study:
    • Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Earth Sciences, Soil Science, Agriculture, Hydrogeology, Forestry, Geography, Biology, or Chemistry.
  • 5-8 years’ experience in remediation, restoration, and/or reclamation activities.
  • Environmental management background in land, water, and soil is required.
  • Experience in developing remediation plans: preparing environmental applications, generating contracts, and managing budgets required.
  • Knowledge of Manitoba and Saskatchewan government regulatory spill reporting and remediation requirements.
  • An understanding of groundwater, effluent, and other types of environmental monitoring.
  • Awareness of standards, regulatory requirements, best available methodologies in remediation, and knowledge of environmental sampling methods to ensure adequate characterization of sites.
  • Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to gather, analyze, and assemble a variety of technical information.
  • Must be results driven and able to interpret project needs and implement solutions.
  • Proficient in Arc GIS, Arc Map Online, and Arc Map Pro; input and interpretation
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office suite programs, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
  • Previous experience in the Oil and Gas industry is required.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license
  • Strong agricultural understanding including crop growth, crop types, soil chemistry and soil assessments
  • Strong understanding of soil sciences and soil chemistry, with the ability to understand and interpret soil and water analytical.
  • Knowledgeable in soil/water sampling techniques and submission protocols.
  • The ability to work independently without direct supervision, along with the ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Attention to detail coupled with the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing, with policies, laws and regulations, and safety related correspondence.
  • Ability to work in highly stressful situations with confidence and instill calm and focus in the project team
  • A high level of self-motivation and initiative, along with the desire to continually improve.
  • Ability to be flexible and multi-task by quickly adapting to changing requirements, special assignments, and workload prioritization.
  • Demonstrated ability in coordinating multiple contractors and consultants effectively and efficiently.
  • Must demonstrate good interpersonal skills that are required to interact with team members and external contractors.
  • Must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
