Job Description

Tundra Oil & Gas is a Manitoba-based oil and gas exploration and production company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Winnipeg-based James Richardson & Sons, Limited. We are committed to working together and to getting everyone home safe every day.Tundra is seeking a Surface Land Representative based out of either our Virden, Manitoba or Estevan, Saskatchewan office. The incumbent in this role will be eligible to participate in Tundras flexible hybrid work scheduleThe primary role of this position is to provide timely, cost-efficient and industry leading surface rights acquisition. Successfully communicating and navigating all interactions with surface owners and members of the public is key. The successful candidate must be able to promote positive relationships with surface owners, RM’s and the public by providing a dedicated, one-person company contact.Reporting to the Manager, Surface Land, some specific duties and responsibilities of the Surface Land Representative include, but are not limited to:

  • Effectively communicate and provide Surface Land and surface owner input to all internal functional teams.
  • Incorporate all internal and external information to ensure that drilling and right-of-way locations are placed in acceptable and cost-efficient locations.
  • Act as a liaison between all surface owners and Tundra.
  • Coordinate all surface owner interactions.
  • Resolve any issues or complaints from surface owners.
  • Coordinate all surveying for drilling locations.
  • Negotiate all surface agreements.
  • Monitor the competition to ensure that competitive compensation rates are being paid.
  • Keep up to date on policies regulations and laws relevant to land acquisition in Western Canada.
Candidates for this position will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
  • High School Diploma is required.
  • Post-Secondary Education in Agriculture or Environmental Sciences is an asset.
  • Ability to acquire Commissioner of Oaths is required.
  • Experience in dealing with the public.
  • Farming background or experience in the farming profession.
  • Knowledge of the geographical area.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS.
  • H2S Alive.
  • First Aid & CPR.
  • Ground Disturbance - Level II.
  • Knowledge of, and willingness to achieve certification in
    • TDG
    • WHMIS
    • Defensive Driving
  • Oilfield drilling, facilities or production operations knowledge is considered a definite asset.
  • Ability to interact productively with landowners and occupants.
  • Ability to understand farming operations.
  • Be a strategic and proactive thinker. Thinks critically and acts logically to evaluate situations and generates required steps to ensure success.
  • Ability to work effectively within a high-pressure environment.
  • Embraces new technologies, recognizes the need for changes, responds effectively to changing conditions, and applies continuous improvement techniques.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to receive, process, and organize large volumes of data and information.
  • Ability to prioritize projects and deal with them accordingly.
  • Has solid interpersonal and teambuilding skills. Treats all team members respectfully.
  • Demonstrates leadership, communication, time management, multi-tasking, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Accepts ownership and delivers on commitments.
  • Has the ability to achieve desired results by encouraging and supporting the contributions of others.
  • Adhere to the safety accountabilities as per Tundra’s Safety Policy.
