Position: Ojibwe Language Support TeacherLocation: Wanipigow SchoolStart Date: September 7, 2021FTE: 1.00 FTETerm of Employment: Term to June 30, 2022Application Deadline: Friday, July 16, 2021Wanipigow School is a modern well-equipped Nursery to Grade 12 school with 290 students located in the community of Hollow Water nestled on the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, a two-hour drive northeast of Winnipeg. The beautiful surrounding area features an abundance of canoe routes, fishing spots and in the winter cross-country ski trails. Wanipigow School is proud to offer a Nursery to Grade 4 Ojibwe immersion program.This position will team teach Nursery to Grade 3 Ojibwe (.50 FTE), teach Grade 9 Ojibwe (.25 FTE) and provide language program support for the school (.25 FTE).QUALIFICATIONSBachelor of Education DegreeValid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for)Fluent in the Ojibwe language, both written and oralPrevious teaching experience, preferably using the Ojibwe languageKnowledge of Indigenous culture, history, and the Truth and Reconciliation calls to actionExperience in using a range of language teaching methods and assessments to adapt to diverse language learning needsDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPlan and coordinate Cultural programs with the Culture CommitteeWork with the Ojibwe teaching team to develop assessment tools, prepare surveys and research documentation to track student successComplete informal observations and provide support as requiredFamiliarity with the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Aboriginal Languages and Cultures: Manitoba Curriculum Framework of Outcomes and the ability to implement itProvide instruction to increase student’s ability to understand, speak, and use a written form of the Ojibwe languageDesign, produce and gather resources to support language instructionIncrease the presence of language in the school environmentFacilitate monthly meetings with school language team to strategize program improvement, highlight the Elders’ vision, develop teaching resources and monitor student progressCommunicate with students’ families to heighten awareness of language learning opportunities in the home and assists families making plans to increase language use at homeCo-facilitate the school cultural activities in cooperation with the Land Based Coordinator, other FSD staff and Elders.Thank you for your interest; however, only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.By applying, you consent to the Division contacting your references.
