Job Description

Wesdome Gold Mines has had over 30 years of continuous gold mining operations in Canada. The Company is 100% Canadian focused with a pipeline of projects in various stages of development. The Company’s strategy is to build Canada’s next intermediate gold producer, producing 200,000+ ounces from two mines in Ontario and Quebec. The Eagle River Complex in Wawa, Ontario is currently producing gold the Eagle River Underground Mine. Wesdome is actively exploring its brownfields asset, the Kiena Complex in Val d’Or, Quebec. The Kiena Complex is a fully permitted former mine with a 930-metre shaft and 2,000 tonne-per-day mill. The Company trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “WDO”.SUMMARYThe Environment Technical Lead provides leadership, technical support & training of staff to coordinate the development & implementation environmental monitoring programs and associated data collection, compilation and reporting to comply with the Federal and Provincial regulations and the site policies at the Eagle River Mine Complex. The Complex includes the Eagle Mine, Eagle Mill and Tailings Management Area, the Mishi Open Pit (closed), the Magnacon Mine (closed) and the associated camp facilities. The Environmental Technical Lead reports to the Environment Superintendent.RESPONSIBILITES/ JOB DUTIES PERFORMED

  • Coordinate the work of technical team to meet monitoring requirements and provide direction, guidance and training to junior technical team members.
  • Prepare annual sampling plan and contribute to annual Environment team budget.
  • Conduct compliance sampling and monitoring (surface and ground water quality, air quality, water flow using stream gauging equipment, water levels and sediment quality).
  • Maintain year-to-year continuity in monitoring programs based on regulatory and commitment requirements.
  • Maintain the Environmental-related records and documentation.
  • Maintenance of environmental monitoring instruments and testing equipment.
  • Prepare compliance and regulatory reports (daily, weekly, monthly and annual).
  • Assist in developing & implementing the Environmental Management System and related Complex policies, standards and procedures.
  • Participate in the environmental emergency response plan.
  • Contribute to the ongoing reclamation and closure process.
  • Participate in the operation and optimization of the Water Treatment Plant treating mill process effluent.
  • Monitor water levels in the ponds and ensure appropriate actions are taken (e.g. transfers of water between the Tails, Reclaim Pond, and Polishing Pond; necessary treatment of the water, and discharges).
QUALIFICATIONS
  • University degree in Biology, Environmental Science, or Chemical/Environmental Engineering preferred.
  • At least three years in a mine and mill environment. Supervisory experienced preferred.
  • An understanding of the mining and milling processes and their environmental effects.
  • Knowledge of Municipal, Provincial (Ontario) and Federal Acts and Regulations.
  • Self-starter who is able to anticipate needs and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The individual should have demonstrated a high level of energy, self motivation, and strong problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills, both orally and written and the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs is required.
  • Proficiency in database programs would be an asset.
LOCATION OF ROLEThe selected individual will be located at the Wesdome Eagle River Complex (see location in Company Information). This is a remote camp environment that includes room and board, and the schedule will align accordingly:
  • Working schedule is two weeks in camp followed by two weeks off site
  • Dayshift only
  • Outdoor work and office work approximately 50/50.
