Job Description

Our client, the Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) is a non-profit, charitable organization committed to creating a hunger-free community by providing healthy, nutritious food those who need it most. They rely on the generosity of the community to support the work they do through the donation of food, funds, and time. These donations come from individuals, families, organizations and community groups as well as various fundraising/food-raising efforts. The Central Okanagan Food Bank is looking for an experienced Logistics Coordinator to join their dynamic Kelowna team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Director of Operations, you will demonstrate leadership and logistics experience to help feed individuals and families experiencing hunger in our community. As the successful candidate, you will be a key leader in the organization, shaping the culture and overseeing shipping/receiving, inventory management, and driver routes, while ensuring a safe working environment for the team. This is a dynamic role in a fun and supportive work environment. With over 150 active volunteers and a small group of employees, the COFB are seeking a highly organized team player and collaborative leader who loves working with people and know how to think on their feet. This is an excellent opportunity to be a part of a community that believes in serving those in need with kindness and compassion.Additional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers and employees;
  • Maintain safety proceduresamp; protocols, and ensure a safe working environment;
  • Train, motivate, and supervise volunteers and employees in warehouse tasks;
  • Liaise with transport companies, suppliers and clients to coordinate logistics;
  • Ensure all inbound and outbound food is weighed and recorded accurately;
  • Arrange and communicate food distribution to outside partner charities;
  • Lead our Farm Food Program, by working with area farmers for daily donations pick-ups of fresh animal grade food;
  • Direct and coordinate warehouse employees and volunteers on tasks and responsibilities;
  • Manage, assign and review work for direct reports engaged in areas such as process improvement, shipping, receiving, inventory movement, order picking, distribution and logistics;
  • Establish and update work schedules, timetables and procedures, resolve work related issues and complete daily reports in conjunction with the Director of Operations;
  • Implement and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures;
  • Collaborate with client facing employees, to assist in stocking the market with the appropriate items each day;
  • Liaise with regional partner food banks to distribute bulk donations and products;
  • Greet and assist donating parties, ensuring a highly positive interaction;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated leadership and warehouse experience;
  • Proven experience in establishing warehouse practices and procedures; in establishing and maintaining warehouse practices and procedures;
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact with employees, volunteers, and the community, including food bank clients and donors.
  • Knowledge of food safety, storage practices, and inventory management required;
  • Valid forklift certificate is an asset;
  • Collaborative leader and team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize tasks;
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality and dependability;
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver’s license and clean driving record required.

The community relies on the services provided by the COFB and you will be able to contribute in a meaningful way.This is a full-time, onsite opportunity that requires walking, standing, sitting and lifting boxes up to 50lbs independently and the ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Salary will be aligned with experience level and is anticipated to start between $25 to $28 an hour.
