About CASACASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health services to the missing middle – mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care and acute treatment in hospital.CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.About the ProgramIn partnership with the Ministry of Mental Health and Addiction and the Ministry of Education, CASA is undertaking our most ambitious project yet: CASA Classrooms.We recognize that mental health supports should be provided where they are needed by children and adolescents. That includes providing holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services in their trusted school spaces. This classroom-based team will provide individual therapy, group therapy and psychiatric support; as well as academic instruction that will embed opportunities to use and practice mental health-promoting skills and strategies.Children and adolescents typically grouped in grades four to six, seven to nine and 10-12 participating in CASA Classrooms will be supported in the classroom for approximately half of the school year. This is followed by another half-year of collaborative and tapered transition, leading to a supported return back to the home classroom, medical provider and targeted community supports. Programming and goals for these children will be individualized and will take into account the whole child, the family and the community in which the classroom is located.About the RoleThe Mental Health Therapist will work to bridge academic and mental health initiatives alongside a multidisciplinary team to ensure the success of students, their families and the program as a whole. The Mental Health Therapist will provide clinical services to children in a classroom setting and work collaboratively with patients, families and the team to create individual goals for patients in the program.The Mental Health Therapist will:

• Provide clinical services to children and/or adolescents.
• Formulate a diagnosis as appropriate using the DSM-V or any other diagnostic tool currently in general use in the program.
• Conduct psycho-educational support and treatment groups for children.
• Develop and implement collaborative treatment plans using a variety of treatment approaches, including play therapy and other individual and group psychotherapies.
• Advocate on behalf of the child and family as appropriate.
• Contribute to staff knowledge and understanding of discipline-specific issues.
• Participate in intake and admission process with the CASA Classroom team, Clinical Manager, Professional Practice Lead and the Division Teacher.
• Lead daily debriefs with the team, participate in weekly case conferences and collaboratively build and supports transition planning.
• Co-facilitate parent support groups and multi-family therapy groups that are psycho-educational and/or psychodynamic in context.
• Make appropriate referrals to consulting services to inform treatment planning and diagnostic clarification.
• Complete written discharge summaries to referring therapist and/or psychiatrist after patient discharge to support continuity of care for adolescent and family.

The successful Mental Health Therapist will also possess the following experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:

• Effective organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Adaptability in incorporating new information, learnings and modalities.
• Demonstrated ability to practice culturally safe therapeutic interventions.
• Direct experience with developing and implementing interventions with family units.
• Strong commitment to building, working within and maintaining a professional team.

• Master’s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy.
• A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
• Active registration and in good standing with Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW), College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) or Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT)

Conditions of Employment

• A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
• A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
• Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
