For more information, visit weyburnpubliclibrary.weebly.com/jobs.htmlTo apply, please submit a cover letter, resume, and the names and contact information of three references.DESCRIPTION:Energetic, team-oriented employees in this position provide library services and programming for young adults (Grade 9-12) at the city of Weyburn Public Library Branch under the supervision of their branch manager. They adopt a community engagement mindset by developing and maintaining effective relationships with schools, community groups, agencies, and non-profits that target youth in order to plan and deliver services and programs that meet the needs of local teens. They leverage community experts, coaches and mentors for services and programs in order to meet teen needs and interests. They provide leadership and mentorship opportunities for young adults including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities. They use the full range of social media, equipment, hardware and software available in the branch as well as effectively search the library’s electronic information sources. They also assist in the delivery of public library services from a city public library branch by providing reference services, operate the circulation desk and support overall library services. They are expected to refer unusual or difficult problems to their supervisor or designate.TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Assist the Branch Manager in conducting regular community needs assessments to identify teen needs.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate teen programs and services both in-person and virtually.
  • Liaison with teen-specific groups to create tailored services and programs for teens.
  • Assist in building community relationships in the promotion of the library’s programs and services for teens.
  • Coordinate and deliver technology based programming.
  • Assist teens, and the public generally, in using the library and its services.
  • Assist teens, and the public generally, in the use of computerized information resources, focusing on the use of social media.
  • Implement current information technology strategies in all aspects of their work
  • Provide reference services with an emphasis on meeting the information needs of teens.
  • Circulate library materials, register library patrons and resolve conflicts with patrons.
  • Receive incoming money, issue receipts and assist in the handling of branch finances.
  • Ensure health, safety and cleanliness of the teen programming environment and resources.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Post-secondary education and/or relevant experience coordinating energetic programming for teens;
  • Ability to design, promote and deliver creative and effective teen programs and services;
  • Firm knowledge of the virtual delivery of programs and services would be considered an asset;
  • Possess a strong public service commitment in the community;
  • Active reader of teen and young adult materials;
  • Keyboarding speed of 30 wpm;
  • Superior interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills;
  • Ability to learn through independent initiative;
  • Ability to operate office and computer equipment;
  • Competent in the use and operation of multiple information technology devices;
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others;
  • Ability to display judgment and tact in working with staff and the public;
  • Possession of a valid driver license and the ability and willingness to drive as required;
  • Physical fitness allowing the lifting and moving of boxes of library materials (up to 20kg);
  • Willingness to work varied hours (i.e. evenings and weekends) as may be required.
  • Library experience an asset.
