Job Description

Alberta Newsprint Company (ANC), a joint venture of the Stern Group and West Fraser Timber Company Ltd., is a leading manufacturer of premium paper products. Located in Whitecourt, and operating with a non-unionized workforce, the firm’s paper mill—the first in Alberta—produces paper of such high quality that it has become the standard by which other paper products manufactured in Canada are measured. The company is a successful, well-financed, progressive organization that is regarded as one the best companies in the paper industry.ANC is currently recruiting for the role of Millwright. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of hydraulic systems at ANC. This position would also assist with the maintenance and repair of stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. ANC will provide hydraulic training to the successful candidate. The successful incumbent for this role will have a Journeyman Millwright ticket and industrial Millwright experience.Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, this role allows an individual to work both independently and within a collective team. This position works a 40-hour workweek from Monday to Thursday, 10 hours per day, with on-call shifts and overtime as required. RESPONSIBILITIESamp; DUTIES

  • Troubleshooting, inspection, service, repair, and test hydraulic components.
  • Maintain the hydraulic shop cleanliness to ensure quality rebuilds.
  • Must complete a four-year in-house hydraulic ticket training.
  • Plan, lead and coordinate hydraulic projects as needed.
  • Direct labor on outages where needed.
  • Assist with capital projects as needed.
  • Technical analysis.
  • Must be available for emergency call-ins as needed to troubleshoot when hydraulic problems.
  • Manage spare parts for hydraulic systems.
  • Work with outside vendors to provide parts and technical help to mill.
  • Read diagrams and schematic drawings, and service manuals, to set work procedures.
  • Assist in the development of preventative maintenance schedules and perform tasks as needed.
  • Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
  • Repair, replace or fabricate parts, when and as required.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Journeyman Millwright certification and a Grade 12 diploma are required.
  • Hydraulic Experience would be an asset.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role in an industrial setting is required. Pulp and paper experience is considered a strong asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Safety-focused mindset and strong knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Have a sense of responsibility, accountability and ownership of your work. Be a self-starter and self-motivated to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Able to successfully work both independently with minimal supervision, and as a part of a team.
  • Demonstrate effective communication with a variety of personalities and roles.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Experience using a computer-based maintenance system and an electronic task logging system is an asset.
