Job Description

Position SummaryThe Early Childhood Educator will be responsible for the care and guidance of infants and children in the Whitewood Wiggles & Giggles Center. They will support the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual well-being of infants and children through the development of child-interest-based curriculums designed by the Early Childhood Educator. Early Childhood Educators along with the Director will work in collaboration with the children and families to be involved in the community and create opportunities to be connected. The Early Childhood Educator will work in a Reggio Emilia-based setting that provides space for children to learn and explore through the hundred languages and take a pedagogical approach to curriculum design.QualificationsEarly Childhood Educator Certificate Level I, II, or III or be actively working towards completing required courses.Current CPR and First AidCurrent criminal record check with vulnerable sector checkDuties and ResponsibilitiesEnsure that Childcare Regulations and Policies and procedures are always adhered to.Prepare and implement a creative and age-appropriate curriculum based on the childrens interests.As each child arrives and departs, the staff is responsible for ensuring the child is signed in and out on the designated form.Create and maintain the physical environment as a third teacher and ensure optimal health and safety of the children.Adapt programming and the environment to consistently meet the needs of the children.Supervise all activities to ensure the safety of infants and children.Adhere to child ratios and ensure numbers are always in line with provincial policies.Perform basic skills of childcare as outlined by the Director (i.e., feeding, diapering, bathing, dressing, toileting).Identify unusual child behaviour and illness, document, and consult with the Director.Administer medications to children when require and fill in appropriate forms.Respond with good judgment and act quickly in the case of a medical emergency or crisis situation (i.e. fire, evacuation, etc.).Attend staff meetings as required.Attend staff training as required.Perform related work as required.Knowledge, Abilities, SkillsAbility to guide infants and children through enthusiastic motivation and supportive role modelling.Ability to maintain plans, records, and evaluations of infants and children.Ability to observe, document, and develop creative programming based on the children’s interests.Ability to be organized and take joy in ongoing updates to the environment.Uses emotional intelligence and self-reflection in daily rituals.Ability to work with the Director, staff, parents, and Board of Directors in a cooperative and collaborative manner.Use of effective problem-solving skills and a desire to work successfully in a team setting.Strong interpersonal skills and ability to demonstrate confident and respectful leadership.Ability to be compassionate, empathetic, patient, and understanding to all stakeholders.Outgoing personality and holds a genuine enjoyment of consistent care for infants and children.Ability to provide security and mature judgment in crisis situations.Ability to set courageous and obtainable goals to continuously be entangled in self-improvement.Knowledge of Child Care Regulations and Ministry of Education Licensee Manual.Training ProgramParticipate in ongoing professional development opportunities.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentSalary: $14.00-$18.00 per hourBenefits:
