Job Description

Kina Gbezhgomi Child and Family Services (KGCFS) KGCFS is a designated Children`s Aid Society delivering Child Protection Services within seven member First Nations in the Districts of Sudbury and Manitoulin. KGCFS honours and supports our families and community’s inherent authority to care for their children based on unity, traditions, values, belief, and customs. Preference will be given to Anishinaabe Candidates, please self-identify in your application.OVERVIEW:A CWBW provides for the safety and well-being of children by KGCFS policies and procedures and Ministry Standards.As the successful applicant, the CWBW will work collaboratively with all KGCFS resources, biological and foster parents, extended family, and First Nation communities to ensure that our children are protected and stay connected with their culture, language, and community while strengthening family and community relationships. EDUCATIONamp; EXPERIENCE:

  • Must possess an accredited college diploma in a related field of study.
  • Preference will be given to those who possess a Bachelor of Social Work Honors Degree or a degree in a related field of study.
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in the delivery of direct, frontline, social service programming within Anishinabe Child and Family Well-Being Services is preferred or proven experience in working with Anishinabek people.
  • An individual of Anishinaabe ancestry is preferred with a genuine understanding and lived experiences of Anishinaabe worldviews, traditions, customs, and practices.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLSamp; ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the Child and Familyamp; Youth Services Act.(CYFSA)
  • The ability to speak the Anishinaabe language is a definite asset and/or willingness for continual learning.Preference will be given to applicants who can speak or write Ojibway, provided they have the skills, ability, and qualifications to do the job.
  • Ability to interpret and apply a wide range of Social Work practices and principles and Native-based methods designed to help families achieve a healthier lifestyle
  • Excellent communication skills. Written skills for the completion of documents, reports, and case notes. Oral skills for communication on a one-to-one basis with clients.
  • Honour all children and youth who may be in transition equally and strive to provide the required support for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and 2-spirited individuals to achieve healthy self-esteem and life enrichment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • The traditional practices of the Anishinabek, from time to time there can be exposure to wood smoke and the burning of sacred medicines, including tobacco, sweetgrass, sage, or cedar, may occur within the work setting
