There is opportunity to engage in research and/or teaching positions with Dalhousie University, as well as, local simulation based opportunities, should that be of interest. HCR ED is approximately 40 minutes drive from the regions tertiary care pediatric facility, the IWK Health Centre, and the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre.HCH services include:

  • 24-hour emergency department
  • inpatient care (28 hospital beds)
  • long-term care facility (32 beds)
  • surgery programs including general and orthopedic surgery
  • several specialty clinics (including obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, hematology)
  • mental health team
On call services are provided from Halifax and Kentville.Responsibilities
  • duties include full scope of practice as an emergency physician
  • the physician will be responsible to the department head for emergency medicine for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority
Expected Hours
  • full-time
  • 10-hour day shifts and 14 hour night shifts available
  • flexible shifts each month
  • single coverage shifts
Qualifications
  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all family physician must have membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
  • all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • all applicants must have a current PALS Certification
  • all applicants must have a current ATLS Certification
  • all applicants must have a current ACLS Certification
