Job Description

Working in close collaboration with hospitals, insurance providers, regional health organizations and workers’ compensation boards, Clearpoint delivers high-quality care across Canada meeting the needs of patients, while alleviating capacity pressure on public health systems.Maples Surgical Centre,a division of Clearpoint Health Network is now accepting applications for Registered Nurse PACU.Opening type: Part- time Casual.No of Position: Ongoing.Position Summary:The Registered Nurse (RN), provides a wide variety of nursing services to patients. The RN uses standard nursing processes including thorough critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teaches, counsels and advocates on behalf of patients.The RN acts in accordance with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba standards and scope of practice, the National Association of Post-Anesthesia Nurses of Canada, and in accordance with facility policies and procedures. The RN possesses the related education and clinical experience to assess, treat and educate patients undergoing and recovering from a wide variety of surgical procedures.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with all members of the health care team.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures and controlled substances regulations.
  • Documents patient care appropriately in the medical record.
  • Participates cooperatively and communicates effectively with team members.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
  • Participates in educational programs as required.
  • Assists with the orientation and support for new staff to the facility.
  • Performs related duties as assigned by leader.
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program combined with 2 - 3 years recent experience in an acute care post-anesthetic care unit environment.
  • Active/eligible for registration and practice permit with College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
  • Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) peri-anesthesia certification or critical care certification/Completion of a post-secondary educational institution peri-anesthesia nursing or critical care nursing program/Completion of a health authority peri-anesthesia or critical care education program and/or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). PREFERRED.
  • Certification and recent experience with IV initiation. PREFERRED.
  • Experience with care of an intubated patient. PREFERRED.
  • Experience with ECG analysis. PREFERRED.
  • Advanced knowledge of regional anesthesia, neuroaxial anesthesia, multimodal analgesia and chronic pain. PREFERRED.
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to maintain a physically demanding job.
  • Must be able to work staggered shifts, possibly extended shifts.
  • Excellent assessment, organization, communication and team interaction skills.
  • Current immunization records.
Physical Requirements:
  • The work environment is physically demanding and may require different levels of physical exertion, such as lifting and transferring patients.
  • At times, RNs may work in challenging and stressful circumstances, such as in an emergency situation.
  • During the course of their work RNs may be exposed to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, chemicals and other safety hazards.
