(PwC)., in its capacity as Court-Appointed Receiver of Yukon Zinc Corporation has a contracted position for a qualified Equipment Operator, Care & Maintenance at the Wolverine Mine located in southeast Yukon.Wolverine is a “dry camp”, fly-in/fly-out underground mine that’s currently in care and maintenance. The mine site is located midway between Ross River and Watson Lake on the Robert Campbell Highway and is approximately 280 km by air northeast of Whitehorse.Please note this is a contracted position not employee of the company. The successful candidate will be engaged as a contractor and be required to work 12 hours a day in the Wolverine mine site. Accommodations and travels to and from the mine site are provided. Pay rate is based on qualifications and experience for the position. We thrive to provide a safe and healthy working environment and offer competitive compensation for our contractors.Due to COVID-19 travel restrictions, only local candidates in the Yukon and parts of western Canada will be considered.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Site Supervisor, the Equipment Operator is responsible to safely operate various types of heavy-duty equipment to support the care and maintenance operation at the Wolverine mine. This position must ensure all work is completed based on the mine site’s guidelines for safety, environmental compliance, and general work practices/procedures. Specific responsibilities include:
  • Safely operate various types of heavy equipment such as the following:
    • Grader/dozer
    • Front-end Loader
    • Excavator & back-hoe
    • Water truck and rock truck
    • Skid steer/forklift
  • Check and prepare working area and adhere to all job safety requirements prior to starting work
  • Complete daily rounds and site checks, monthly fluid checks and filling out reports as required; monthly checks of fire and emergency equipment
  • Maintain access and site roads, airstrip and other infrastructures
  • Support all other Wolverine camp services as instructed by the supervisor
  • Share housekeeping responsibilities with other members of the small care and maintenance team, including but not limited to tasks such as camp housekeeping, cooking and snow removal
  • Support building and equipment maintenance as required, such as preventive maintenance, services, and clean-up
  • All other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Supervisor
Minimum Requirements
  • Certified heavy-duty equipment operator, particularly with experience of running CAT grader
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in similar industrial settings, preferably at a remote camp or mining operation
  • Mechanically inclined, experience with equipment trouble shooting and performing minor repairs and services is preferred
  • Ability to work Independently with little assistance and supervision, understand and follow instructions and communicate questions or concerns as needed
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic, cooperative spirit and safety leadership
  • First aid training and certification an asset
  • Able to work a 12 hour day, 2 week rotation
  • Consent to regular COVID-19 testing prior to each rotation
